My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Geneva is an Old English Sheepdog. Geneva is about 4 years old. Geneva did not have the best life prior to coming into rescue. Despite her previous life, Geneva is a really nice dog. Geneva has lots of energy so she will need to go to a home that is active. Geneva gets along with all of the other rescue dogs in her foster home. Overall, Geneva does well on a leash. That said, if Geneva gets excited, she will pull a bit. With some more training, Geneva is going to be a great dog. Geneva had to be shaved down due to her previous owner not caring for her. Geneva is a bit underweight, but thanks to her foster Mom, she is slowly getting her back into shape.

Geneva has Diabetes Insipidus not to be confused with Diabetes Mellitus (insulin dependent diabetes). Diabetes insipidus (DI) is a rare disorder that affects water metabolism, preventing the body from conserving water and releasing too much of it. This condition is characterized by increased urination, dilute urine, and increased thirst and drinking. This disease is not related to diabetes mellitus (insulin diabetes). Diabetes Insipidus is treated with daily meds that are compounded. The medication is an eye drop that is administered twice daily. The cost is approximately $100 per month. We highly recommend that you do your own research and talk to your own vet for information - we can also put you in touch with her vet. Geneva has dysplastic hips, but our vet does not recommend any surgery at this time as it is hardly noticeable. However, she may experience arthritis at an older age.
Geneva is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm prevention.

The total adoption donation of $500 and includes the required interstate health certificate and transport , spay/neuter, shots including rabies, bordatella, parvo, lepto, distemper and canine influenza, and micro chip with a lifetime pre paid registration. The total amount is payable to Shaggy Dog Rescue which is a 501c3. Some of our dogs are still in Texas in foster care. The application is online at http://houstonshaggydogrescue.org/application-process/

Just as a note, if you are in Massachusetts and are adopting directly from Texas rather than from a local foster, there are new quarantine laws in effect. All rescues must be quarantined 48 hours at a state run facility, and in addition, a second interstate health certificate is required to be issued by a Massachusetts vet. This new law may add an additional cost.
