My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

VINNIE: 5 Year Old Yellow English Neutered Male Purebred Lab 75 Pounds (needs to lose ~5 lbs)

Vinnie was purchased from a breeder and lived the first two years of his life with a lovely family. Because of lifestyle changes, Vinnie then went to live with the parents of the original family. He was "Dad's" dog and because of health reasons Dad is no longer able to care for him and so the family contacted Lab Rescue to find him his forever home. Vinnie would hang out on the deck all day and was garaged at night. He hadn't been on walks in a while or around other dogs other than visiting family members and neighbor's dogs.

From Vinnie's Foster Mom:

Vinnie acclimated very well and settled in right away. He is such a handsome, happy fellow. He has great temperament. He is generally calm, but is always ready for an adventure. I use a correction collar when taking walks and with him, pulling is not a problem. When on a walk, he gets excited if he sees another dog. He will bark, not aggressively as he just wants to play. He is great in the crate. Sleeps all night and I don't hear a sound. I also crate him when I leave the house. Have never heard a protest about being crated. He is housebroken and rides well in the car. We have not seen any resource guarding with toys or food. He doesn't have a strong retrieve drive. Sometimes he'll retrieve the ball and sometimes he ignores it. We were unsure of whether Vinnie liked to swim but the day after he arrived he jumped in the pool and loved it. When he gets excited and wants to play, he gets mouthy. I have been working on this. He doesn't do it aggressively. I think it is his idea of play. Vinnie is a great lovable lab just waiting for someone to love him. He is a joy and easy Lab to foster.

From Vinnie's Rescue Rep:

Vinnie has about 5-7 pounds to lose so Lab Rescue would like someone who is around during the day to provide some needed exercise and structure which he currently is receiving with his foster family. He has prey drive so a cat free home is a must. Because of his mouthiness (which can be overcome with training), any kids in the home should be 10 and older. Though he has never had basic obedience classes he knows a few commands. He takes treats gently. Vinnie has great recall but with any new dog they should not be off leash in an unconfined area until the recall is 100% rock solid. Vinnie loves to swim in the foster's pool so a pool would be a plus though it must be fenced in. He also loves playing with other dogs so a second Lab (or dog of comparable size, age and energy) would also be a plus.

Medical: Vinnie is healthy, recently neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped.

Vinnie is located in San Jose.

If you have what we are looking for and have the time and commitment to devote to our handsome Vinnie, call Rescue Rep Sandy @ 650-303-2436. Please leave good days/times to return your call.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
