My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi everyone! My dad named me Shift because I can shift from being calm and relaxed to high energy in a split second! I can run for miles without getting tired but I can also be very laid back and just enjoy being near you while you read a book or watch TV. I love attention and to be close to people all the time, but I am also fine being left alone for long periods of time. My best friend Torque (another Malamute) and I need to find a new place to dig because our mom and dad are going to college in Phoenix this summer and it's going to be too hot for us to be comfortable there. We love snow and cold weather and prefer to be outside rather than inside where we can dig a hole to lay in, so we would rather stay up North anyway. Torque and I get along great together and have never gotten into a disagreement with each other, but I take a little bit of time to warm up to new dogs and like to be the one in charge, so I would feel most comfortable staying with Torque, being by myself or sharing a home with a male dog who doesn't try to challenge me. I have lots and lots of energy and would love to go for long runs every day and have a big yard to run around in. I am very smart and will patrol the perimeter of my yard every day to see if a board in the fence has become loose or if it looks like there might be a weak spot for me to dig out so I can go exploring, so it's really important that my new yard be very secure with a tall fence. I love to go for rides in the car and am perfectly house and crate trained, but you should not leave the trash out where I can get to it or there might be a mess when you get home. I respond very well to my name and will wait til my name is called to come get food or treats and I know lots of basic commands too! My favorite thing is to get belly rubs and lay on your feet and if you don't give me enough attention, I will put my nose on you or put my paw on you so you don't forget about me. I have one bad habit, and that's chewing on socks and toys or other small things made of plastic so I should not be left alone with the laundry or anything you don't want me to leave some teeth marks in. I like kids and have been raised with one for the last 4yrs, but I am sensitive and would prefer to be around older kids who know not to pull on my face or squeeze me too hard. I hope to find a family that can adopt me and my brother Torque since we have never been apart in 6yrs.

Shift is a large, female Malamute about 8 years old. She and her best buddy, Torque, are looking for a home together, if possible. As you can tell by the photos she and Torque are very attached to each other and would love a home together.
