My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adoption Fee: $250
Fostered in Louisiana
Age: 8.5 years
Weight: 4.6 lbs.

5/30/17 - Little Louie Armstrong was turned into a shelter when his owner felt he could no longer care for him. We sure wish he would have turned him in sooner, because alot of his vetting needs could have been addressed along time ago and saved Louie some major pain.

As we are sure you can see in the photos, Louie's eyes are cloudy. Well, we brought him to the eye specialist and it was felt that he is not a surgical candidate and is blind in both eyes. The doctor thinks he has been this way for a long time and suspects that the cataracts caused inflammation which was never addressed and led to permanent corneal scarring and retinal disfunction. He is currently on Diclofenac solution, one drop in each eye daily, to aide in the inflammation. She said he isn't in any pain and actually is a bright, alert little man who does very well despite his visual shortcomings.

Another issue of concern was his teeth. They were AWFUL and in LONG TIME need of addressing when we got him. While under anesthesia, the vets noticed that he has a hairline fracture of the jawbone. This is typical in these babies when their teeth are never cleaned. The teeth get infected and it eats away at the bone which becomes more brittle when not taken care of. Well, all those nasty teeth are gone now and he has 4 teeth left. He will eat soft food mixed with water to make it easier and he is very pleased with that diet.

He is a snuggler in bed at night and sleeps soundly. He doesn't mind other dogs in the house his size. He will need a mom or dad that is at home a lot. Louie loves to be with his people and lets his foster mom carry him around the house in a pet sling. He picks up very quickly on the lay of the land and lets you know loudly when he seems to have lost his way. Come to think of it, he will also let you know when he wants to be picked up, when he wants to be talked to, when it is just too quiet in the house, and so on. He will belt out a bark to say, "Hey, come get me servant."

Louie does fine with a bath and blow-dry. He eats like a champ and will tinkle outside when brought out and placed in the grass. He does need a low-key home that has parents that just want to dote on this fur-baby as if he's made of gold. Louie doesn't seem to care that he is blind, he doesn't seem to care that he only has 4 teeth and he doesn't seem to hold a grudge for the shit life that he had previously. I like that and wish more people had that attitude, but I think God only gave that outlook to animals. Louie is proof of that in the way he loves to give kisses. Louie deserves the best and that is what he will get, so please only apply if you are that confident.
