My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mango could be that dream come true pup for a family or retirees who love spending their time with a cottony-soft and very sweet companion. The Schnauzer/Poodle mix is a perfect combo for those who are searching for an extremely smart and fun-loving family dog.

Mango's story is all too common in her extremely close call to being euthanized in a scary Texas shelter....but who could ignore her adorable manner and desire to bond with anyone who would be her best friend? Mango, while she may be initially shy after her shelter stay...her engaging and sweet nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated. Her social temperament lead her to ultimately become a friend with almost everyone she meets. She is such a wonderful being...we think she represents the best qualities of the Poodle and Schnauzer breeds.

Mango is in the process of leaving behind the neglect and lack of love that made up her early life. At about 4 - 4.5 years old and 18 lbs, Mango is a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier her family is with her behavior, the more she shines with her accomplishments. We would love to see Mango in a home that includes her in family time and activities...she's social (once comfortable) and would thrive in a family that truly loves her and considers her a very important family member. Mango would also be a wonderful companion for retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young pup. Mango would also do great in a family with gentle, dog-loving children who are old enough to understand that a small dog needs to be handled with care and love. Mango doesn't require another dog to be happy...but does enjoy her canine relationships with kind and gentle dogs.

Mango's Houston rescuer had the following to say about sweet and lovable Mango:

I'm the luckiest foster in Houston to have the short-term friendship of Mango! She's amazing...sweet and kind! I brought her around 3 other small dogs today and she was absolutely fine. In true Mango form - she was great and appropriate. Not an ounce of aggression or ill-will anywhere in this girl. I definitely think she would be a gift to any family including older kids...they just must understand her small size and to never be rough with her.

I can't say for certain but Mango may initially be timid...but not to worry - she comes around to be the ultimate snuggler. Mango would be perfect for someone who wants a true best friend...and is a great size and temperament to be able to go anywhere. Mango loves me so much that she's happy to be with me at all times and is definitely my little cuddle bug.

In conclusion...Mango's temperament is wonderful and I would absolutely adopt her in a second but she's scheduled for her freedom ride to Colorado. I think Mango will be overjoyed with the dog-loving families that always provide great homes for our Houston dogs.

Mango will do well with anyone who's invested in spending time with their pup. She's so pleasant and portable that she can be a part of any adventure....it can be a leisurely walk, a visit with friends, a car ride on vacation or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch - all of this would speak to Mango's social yet gentle temperament and extremely loving ways.

Mango is in desperate need of a sudsy bath and a great brushing as can be seen in his photo. She suffers from dermatitis (like so many rescue dogs). This is a temporary itchy skin challenge caused by stress and dirty conditions resulting in hair loss and red skin (Mango is currently being treated for Derm in her Texas foster home). With great nutrition, periodic medicated baths and a kind and loving family... Mango will emerge as a gorgeous Schnoodle with a beautiful and cottony-soft coat that speaks of her good health.

As a non-shedding breed mix, Mango will require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her coat healthy, super-soft and matt-free.

Mango is up to date on her vetting, but has yet to be spayed. We're hoping that she will be fixed when she arrives from Texas. If this is not the case, Farfel's will cover all costs for Mango to be spayed and micro chipped at our vet in Denver to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation.

Mango will be arriving on transport in Denver on Friday 6/9/17. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
