Max is my pride and joy. We first met October 31, 2008 at a dog pound where he was scheduled to be put down that day. He was just under a year old then when I decided to take him for a walk to show him some compassion and within 5 minutes, we feel in love. The officers at the pound let me take him home that day and I'll never forget how happy and excited he was when I took him out of there forever! He was a quick learner when it came time to train him and after being together for nearly 9 years, he has become my family and my protector as I am his. He's smart, funny and still young at heart. He loves to hug by going between your legs as if to give you a ride on his back. His favorite toys are my Mom's old Teddy Bear slippers and his yellow football that he's had for the past 6 years. He is an expert at removing the squeaky part of a dog toy with surgical precision and loves finding treats planted in his puzzle toy. At home, I never have to leash him because he loves to walk with me or at least be near. That's not to say that quick moving prey won't catch his attention!

Max has a 7 year old sister who needs a new home as well. Her name is Mikki and she is a sweet, affectionate Jack Russell/ Boarder Collie mix. We met at a community gathering when she was about 6 to 8 weeks old September of 2010. I intended to take her to an animal shelter but after my ailing Mother named her Mikki, we kept her. Max actually trained her more than I since I was spending most my time as a care giver. Mikki is a hunter!!!! The Boarder Collie part makes her start each morning with a purpose and the Terrier part gives her those honing instincts to go after all types of rodents, rabbits and snakes. We have always lived out in the country or near the woods and she loves the outdoors, I had no reason to deter her from hunting. However, I spoke to the Vet about her and it was suggested to put her in an agility class to curb her hunting instincts. Although she is ferrous in the fields, she is very afraid of thunder storms and fireworks and wants to cuddle up.

Both Max and Mikki love to chase the laser, take walks and ride in the car on a cool day with the windows half down. Picking up their leashes brings instant joy! They also LOVE their treats of dental sticks or doggy ice cream or duck treats or chew sticks with chewy stuff in the middle. They don't get it every day, so it really is a treat when they do. I'm hoping to find them a home where they can stay together as brother and sister. A home with room for them to run and a loving atmosphere would be ideal. Letting go of my dogs is one of the most difficult tasks I've got to deal with. However, I need to be honest with myself and let go... to another loving home.
