Hello from Ernie!
I’m a typical lazy (10ish year old) treeing walker coonhound just looking for my own retirement home where I can sleep or hang out on the couch and keep you company.
I am feeling great after recently been treated for heartworms and having some dental work done.
I do have some arthritis in my back legs (who doesn't at this age right?), so sometimes it takes me a minute to get this old body moving.
I really like my crate and will go in there to eat and hang out, and to sleep every night.
I have done a great job with my house training and no longer mark in the house. My foster mom has a doggie door that goes out to a fenced yard, which I really like so I can roam free and bark at all the trees. I also bark to say hello to my foster Mom or to let her know that I am hungry. I would be best suited for a country property so your neighbours don't complain about by outside voice :)
I like car rides, but I could use some practice walking on a leash. I’m not a chewer (not even toys or shoes!) and I’m not a beggar for treats.
I’m very tolerant with other dogs and am great with younger kids, but I prefer to hang back and watch them play. I'm also great with cats!
I just want to lay on a big comfy pillow or lay in the sun and sleep the day away. It’s retirement, right?
Let’s hang out together! I promise not to snore too loudly!

Please Note:   We are all volunteers and busy taking care of our foster dogs so please take the time to fill out our on-line adoption application if you are interested in more information about any of the hounds that we have for adoption. Filling out our application does not obligate you to adopt in any way.  It does, however, help us to determine if the dog that your interested in would be a good match for your family and lifestyle.

All of our dogs are fully vetted.  They have been vaccinated, altered, microchipped and heartworm tested and on prevention.

ADOPTION FEE:  $400.00

If you would like to give this sweet guy a forever home please fill out our on line adoption application at

About Gentle Jake's Coonhound Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Gentle Jake's Coonhound Rescue is a small, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the memory of my beloved coonhound Jake. Our volunteers are dedicated to helping homeless and abandoned coonhounds find loving and permanent homes as indoor pets. We are based and operate in Ontario. We have been rescuing these wonderful hounds since 2003. We are also a member of Coonhound Companions where our goal is to educate the public about misconception that hounds do not make good family pets. We want to share our love of coonhounds with the whole continent, with hopes of inspiring dog lovers everywhere to consider adopting a coonhound.

Come Meet Our Pets...

If you would like to meet one of our hounds please contact us as they are located in foster homes throughout Ontario. We always in need of more foster homes. Please contact us to find out how you can help a coonhound today!

Our Adoption Process...

All adoptive homes are required to go through a screening process that includes a telephone interview, filling out an application, reference checks and a home visit. An adoption donation is required to offset some of the costs incurred in caring for and re-homing each coonhound. Bluetick Gentle Jake's Coonhound Rescue remains committed to each animal for the rest of its life and if, at any time and for any reason, the adoption does not work out, we require that the hound be returned to us.
