My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SLUGGER is a six-year-old grey and white male cat. Slugger was rescued from a junkyard, where it appears he lived most of his life – his ears are crinkled, testimony to the struggles he endured to survive. Slugger went into foster care, and we wondered if this boy could ever learn to be anything but withdrawn and frightened. Turns out he could, thanks to the kindness, patience, and gentleness of his foster family. Slugger spent the entire first month rooted in his litterbox, eyes darting back and forth, and would only emerge at night to eat. His foster mom worked diligently to instill confidence in him, and these days Slugger explores the apartment with no hesitation, romping with his foster felines in play and fun. He chirps at them to play, and if they are not available, Slugger makes do by a rousing game of bat the catnip pickle thereabouts, pounce on the wand, and send the cat ball zooming across the floor, merrily chasing it as it skitters about. Slugger then perches on his cat condo, and watches the world go by from his secure seat by the window, or opts for a nap in his comfy bed.
Slugger loves the back scratcher when applied to his back and body, and especially when foster mom rubs his cheeks with it; he leans right in. Temptation treats are his reward, and foster mom has discovered Slugger is very much food motivated: definitely Temptation catnip treats, which is his favorite! Recently, Slugger and his foster mom have been working on positive training; a treat in exchange for brushing. And we have to say, he’s done an amazing job!! Not to mention he’s looking even more handsome. Slugger LOVES fresh catnip and has been spoiled all summer with his foster parents growing it in the garden. He’s the first to form the line with his feline foster siblings and eats the catnip leaves right out of his foster mom’s hand!
Slugger is now looking for his forever home, and looking at those cute apple cheeks, beautiful green eyes, adorable masked face, and blossoming personality, we know it won’t be long for someone to look at him and think what a perfect addition he’d make to a household. His foster mom says she doesn’t know what she loves more, the freckle on his nose or the one grey leg warmer! We think Slugger will do well in a quiet home with a friendly cat he can bond and play with; and a patient and persevering family that will allow him the time to settle in and continue to blossom. And Slugger comes with an additional benefit: his present foster family is willing to supply post adoption support to his adoptive family!
