Kelly's Story...
This sweet girl is a puppy mill survivor and still a bit shy but coming along every day. She is gentle and sweet and loves other dogs and with the right family and lots of love and patience she can become a loyal loving family member who deserves the best humans can give her.

Puppy mill survivors can become wonderful loyal pets but need some extra considerations. They deserve the best of humans can offer after starting life with some of the worst.

They will need a super secure fully fenced yards so they can explore the world safely
Most will do best with another friendly dog they can bond with.
And, they will need to be indoor house dogs and will thrive in calm stable environments. Chaotic situations, moves, vacations etc can be overwhelming for these pups.
Most adoptable dogs will need some reintroduction into a home, potty training, basic manners and social skills. Please be prepared to provide the training and dedication needed to provide your new pet the time and training needed to become his/or best possible companion.

If you are interested in meeting or adopting one of our pets or have questions about the process please see our website at www.adoptmountainpets.org or call the Shelter between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday. 970 626 2273

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Kelly, a Ridgway Australian Shepherd dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Australian Shepherd for sale in Ridgway, or seeking a Australian Shepherd dog from a breeder in Ridgway.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Ridgway already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Ridgway breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Australian Shepherd breeders who help with Australian Shepherd rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Ridgway paves the way for another one to be saved.
