My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please read dog’s entire written bio before contacting rescue. To inquire about this dog, you do not need to press any special buttons on this website. Send a regular e-mail to Janet Cook at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. Please provide some information about your home, family and other pets. Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue is a private, foster home based rescue. Though there are some steps that precede meeting a dog, they are quick and expeditious. Thank you!

Rescued from the Ramona Animal Shelter as a two-year-old community stray, Kevin is a friendly, quiet, happy, dog social and people friendly dog that is playful (though he can also chill and rest too!). He is a sweet dog with an kind nature. Kevin loves to hang out with the dog pack, play with various dogs at the rescue, with or without toys, and seems to have a love for toys all around. He also loves to hang out near, or with his person or people and like most dogs; I would consider him a Velcro dog.

Having a very long body, and the paws and soulful eyes of a Dachshund, we are SURE that he is a Dachshund mix, but our best guess as to what he is mixed with would be Jack Russell Terrier, and he is more on the size of a standard sized Dachshund, weighing about 21 lbs. Kevin is CUTE! He has a great coloring, cream colored with ticking spots all over and big brindle patches, a lovely healthy coat, and a cute mask to boot! He is a low rider with a happy personality!

Kevin is potty-trained (though potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment) and crate-trained (at the rescue, dogs are crated to eat, sleep, and if I have to leave for a bit). We have not tested him with kids, but I have a feeling he would do fine. I do not know if he would play with kids, but nothing about him so far strikes me as scary for kids, and cats are a complete unknown. His leash skills need honing, but a leash is not a complete unknown to him and he can get it down with practice. He tends to jump up towards my lap for attention, but this is a training issue, and he can totally settle down nicely too. Whenever I work at the computer, he finds a pet bed near me and contentedly chills.

The home we seek for Kevin is a home with another dog. It would be nice if the other dog was playful, but I think he would do better if there was at least the presence of another dog in the home rather than to be completely alone when those times come. I would love to say that he can be adopted as an only dog in the home, but he strikes me as not being super independent. Please have another dog in the home of any age to express an interest in Kevin! (All rescued dogs must be primarily indoor dogs, never to be excluded to the outdoors only; therefore, dog doors are a huge plus! A crate on-hand would be beneficial for Kevin during a transitional phase to a new place, but eventually he can be weaned away from crating when left unsupervised once deemed suitable).

Kevin is neutered, fully vaccinated (including rabies), Front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Kevin, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue until you have first submitted an interest via e-mail. Please visit my website at: http://www.angelsheartdogrescue.com and go to the Adoption Tab to read about the adoption process and fees; thank you! If you wish, look for the article that I wrote entitled, “Boys vs. Girls!”
