Meet Lexi!! Lexi was just recently saved by The Last Resort and she is really something special. She is a shepherd mix of some type and maybe some Collie in there, maybe even some whippet because she has really long legs but is very lean. She weighed in at 35 pounds recently but that is definitely too thin! We think she is maybe 1 year old if that. She has really beautiful white teeth. Lexi is timid and we believe that she has probably experienced some abuse in her past. She comes out of her shell very quickly though. She will need someone that is really willing to focus on her and helping her become the amazing dog she has already shown us that she can be! She loves to be loved on and would just love to be able to play all day and then come hang out on the couch in your lap. She has done really amazing with her potty training and is super in her crate. She goes right in her crate and picked up on the routine very quickly. She is very gentle and loving but she also loves to play with other dogs. We think her best home will be one that is pretty quiet and definitely will do well with another dog to play with and help her feel secure.
We are hoping for someone that is looking to adopt 2 dogs and would adopt both Lexi and Cassidy (another dog at The Last Resort). Check out Cassidy's bio on our page also. They really are best buddies and their personalities are very different but blend together very well. Cassidy helps Lexi overcome her timidness and they have a ball together - they are truly inseparable. Both are young and energetic, but are such joys and just keep you laughing with their fun antics. They are a wonderful pair. They are from the same kill shelter in GA and it's almost as if they know that and have formed this amazing bond. Be sure to watch the video so you can see how nicely they play together and share toys! We are not requiring these 2 be adopted together.
For Lexi we are definitely requiring a fenced in yard because she loves to play and another dog that is very friendly and will help her fit into her routine and show her the ropes. She actually does very well walking on a leash but needs to be kept on a secure collar, just in case something were to spook her. She is really coming out of her shell quickly. Lexi loves nothing more then to be on the couch cuddling with you and really loves being in the bed also. Lexi must be allowed on your furniture because it is just her favorite place to be. If you don't like dogs on the furniture, this is not the girl for you.
This beauty deserves a home that will love her forever and never hurt her. We are just going to have to work hard to find her the right home. Very young children are probably not a good idea, as they will spook her. But, please understand, she's a great dog that deserves a chance. She loves toys and to play.
Lexi is in her foster home in GA and will be available to be transported to either NJ or MD, when an approved adopter is found.
~~The Last Resort is a foster based rescue. Our dogs are in our foster homes all up and down the east coast. We do not have a facility in which you can visit. We find this a huge benefit because we learn our dogs and are able to educate our adopters on what it’s like to have them live in your home. Part of our process, once pre-approved, is to speak with the foster for the dog you’re interested in. If you’re still interested in adopting from our rescue the first step is to complete our adoption application online at www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm
