Thelma 'Adopted''s Story...
Update: Well we spoke to soon. Poor Thelma had to have more skin removed from her eye lids. It was heartbreaking to put her through a third surgery but it was needed. Thelma's a fun loving girl and with recovery time and TLC, she'll be feeling better then ever and back to her old self.

Update Feb 27 Thelma is feeling great these days and has really come out of her shell. If your looking for a companion with character, Thelma has it all. She's a young girl, not more than two years old and she's having so much fun running and playing. She bounces around like Tigger in Whinnie the Pooh! when she gets excited or wants to play. She really likes toys and is very food motivated. Thelma's one gorgeous girl, inside and out! She deserves to have a family of her own who will show her the love and compassion that she should have always known.

Thelma is spayed and ready for adoption. She did have cherry eye in one eye and it was pocketed back in but didn't hold so had to be removed. There is a possibility that Thelma could develop dry eye at some point in her life and would require eye drops but at this point there's no way of knowing if she will or not. She also had a large lump removed from her back and the pathology report came back benign so there are no worries and no follow up vet care required. Thelma's vet costs have exceeded $1500. She's now happy and healthy and ready for a home of her own. If you feel that your the family for Thelma, please fill out our on line adoption application.

Update: Feb 8.

Thelma has recently arrived into foster care and she has had surgery. She did have severe entropion on her upper and lower eye lids. This is very painful for a dog and Thelma was obviously left to suffer for a long long time. She also had cherry eye in one eye and her surgery went great. She's wearing a pretty blue cone to keep her from scratching at her eyes as they're so itchy while they're healing. Thelma is healing great and will be going into the vets for a recheck in the next week or two.

Thelma is such a nice girl, she's as sweet as she is pretty! She's very friendly and affectionate. She's great with other dogs and loves to have someone pay attention to her. We don't doubt for a minute that Thelma has lived her short life in a puppy mill. She is house training quickly and learning not to counter surf. Who can blame her for being attracted to great smelling food! Thelma's a pretty laid back girl and not to high energy but we'll have to see if this changes when she's feeling better. Thelma will be a wonderful addition to a quieter family.

This poor girl looked like she hasn't had anyone care about her in her entire life! She does have some hair loss from a flea allergy but that will grow back in no time.Thelma is only 2 to 3 years old and she does have a heart murmur. Her heart has been x-rayed and it's very healthy and strong! She did have cherry eye and entropion but both are common eye problems in Bloodhounds and both are repairable with surgery and a lot of TLC.

We will be updating again soon. Please remember! If you do ever buy a puppy, please insist on meeting 'both parents' of those puppies. No excuse as to why you can't meet them should do!

Canadian Hound Rescue is made up of small group of volunteers and our funds are very limited. All of our hounds are spayed/neutered and provided with all necessary vet care prior to adoption. If you would like to make a donation to Thelma's medical care please click on our PayPal link or contact Jean at No donation is to small and every penny helps!

Bloodhounds require A SECURELY FENCED YARD. Invisible/underground electric fences don't work on these dogs. They get a scent and are totally oblivious to anything else around them.....including traffic. Bloodhounds don't tie or chain well either. They are fine for apartment living as long as they get enough exercise. All of our dogs are adopted to be 'in-the-house' family members. Bloodhounds are not for everyone, they can't roam free and can't be walked off leash. Please learn more about the breed from the website provide by our friends at the Canadian Bloodhound Club

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Thelma 'Adopted', a Ontario Bloodhound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Bloodhound for sale in Ontario, or seeking a Bloodhound dog from a breeder in Ontario.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Ontario already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Ontario breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Bloodhound breeders who help with Bloodhound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Ontario paves the way for another one to be saved.
