Meet Winnie! This gorgeous rottie girl was originally rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas just outside of Ft. Bend County. Now this sweet girl is patiently waiting for her new home to come along and bring her into a new family.
Winnie is very typical to her breed, she is all Rottweiler and is 90 lbs of solid muscle, and she loves to throw it on you! Once this sweet girl gets to know you, you are her friend for life and she really likes to get up on the couch and snuggle in your lap. She likes to pretend she's a lap dog. :) She is a moderate level of energy, meaning she can be playful and hyper when it's time to be, but she also knows when it's time to settle down and curl up and relax. Winnie does not like to meet a lot of people or strangers, unless they allow her to greet them first without any pressure. So walks out on the town really aren't for this girl, unless there aren't a lot of people around who will be reaching out for her. When greeting her, it's best to keep your hands at your side and let her come to you so that she can smell you, and get to know your first. A lot of people find this to be a bad trait, but honestly, most of us like to get introductions to new people and at the very least shake hands. So nothing wrong with her wishing for the same respect. If given this respect, she warms up quickly (ESPECIALLY if you have her favorite toys and a snack) and enjoys belly rubs and playtime with her favorite toy, the jolly egg and teaser ball!
Winnie is a great girl, who gets along with most dogs she meets. She can have a tendency to be a bit bossy at times. She is not aggressive, but some dogs can take it offensively. She takes corrections and commands well once she's established with you and minds her manners when asked. She learns quickly as she is motivated by toys and food. If you have those two things, you're usually her best friend almost instantly! She also doesn't mind cats at all, she mostly just leaves them alone and doesn't bother them. She would do well in a home with older/adult children. Though she has never hurt a small child we feel it would be best to keep her around older kids since the younger ones tend to be a bit more noisy and sporadic in energy.
Because Winnie is receptive to many forms of reward, she is easy to train. She knows several commands including sit, stay, kennel, come, and settle down. She knows her name well, so recall is good as well.
Winnie is fully vetted, meaning she is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and currently on monthly flea and heartworm prevention. Winnie is a special girl who is looking for a home that understands her breed, since she isn't a dog that enjoys walks on the waterway and dog parks. Since she is staying with K&M Canines, anyone interested in adoption will receive free training for her lifetime, if desired. She will also receive discounted boarding rates for her lifetime as well!
