Jango's Story...
Jango is a very sweet, happy, fun & playful 4 year old Labrador/Retriever mix. (He was born on May 24, 2013.)

He absolutely loves attention, cuddling, going for walks, playing with people/kids, playing ball & with chew toys (he chases the ball but he doesn't know "drop it"). He’s a healthy boy and at his perfect weight of 69 pounds.

Jango has lived in a home with at least one other dog and gets along with most other dogs once introduced properly (on neutral ground). With non-aggressive dogs he loves to play once he knows the other dog(s). Jango has lived with children (ages 8-15) and loves to play & snuggle with them. He also loves to chase kids when they are running and sometimes jumps up on them playfully (small children may be knocked over so we recommend older/sturdy kids if there are children in the family). When playing chase, ball or tug of war, Jango is noisy (sassy; 'talks back') and barks playfully; he has a big bark and gets excited. He’s not been around cats so that is unknown territory.

Jango is quick and eager to learn; he currently knows simple commands. He knows his name, "sit", "come [here]" "shake" (hold your hand out to him while he's sitting) and "stay" (holding your hand out and up like a stop sign). He also knows "leave it" when he is given food (he has to sit, watch & wait until it's poured, and then told "OK" until he can eat). He is also leash trained and loves going for walks, runs or hikes. He is used to a 'gentle lead' harness, but has also walked with a normal leash and prong collar (we, the rescue, would like him to get use to walking with a regular harness and leash). Jango eats 1 1/2 cups of dog food twice a day.

While Jango would do fantastic as an 'only' dog as long as he wasn’t left sitting home alone all day, he'd probably be fine with and enjoy another dog too (we always do a meet & greet first to make sure all 4-leggers get along)! He also would do fantastic in a home with older kids to play with. He is potty trained; has lived in a home with a doggie door for the past few years and is crate trained (he is put in the crate to sleep at night and sometimes when nobody is home). He has grown out of the puppy 'chewing' phase, but would possibly chew stuffed animals since they resemble dog toy stuffed animals which he tends to chew. Would be good with sturdy kong toys or the ultra hard nylabones. Jango's human family absolutely adores him and is extremely sad to have to rehome him, however, his owner had to take a new job traveling frequently, plus is dealing with some personal medical issues that are forcing this change; they will not be home enough to take care of him & don't think it's fair to keep him when he deserves a lot more attention than what he is getting.

If interested in fostering, or interested in a foster-to-adopt situation, please email to request a foster or adoption application.

Jango’s adoption fee is $220.00 and he is neutered, vet checked, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Jango, a Phoenix Labrador Retriever/Retriever (Unknown Type) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever/Retriever (Unknown Type) for sale in Phoenix, or seeking a Labrador Retriever/Retriever (Unknown Type) dog from a breeder in Phoenix.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Phoenix already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Phoenix breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever/Retriever (Unknown Type) breeders who help with Labrador Retriever/Retriever (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Phoenix paves the way for another one to be saved.
