Mugsy was never exposed to normal life when she was young, but has made a tremendous amount of progress in foster. She now approaches people and dogs with curiosity and interest. Fast movement from people can sometimes still be a bit scary, but she recovers very quickly. She is becoming desensitized to all the normal sights and sounds of daily life. She does have some lingering fears about large men, but we suspect that will become less of an issue the more kind people she is exposed to.
She currently can walk fairly well on a leash and is starting with some basic obedience.
Mugsy is currently in foster with Benny(male lab) and they get along great together. She likes being with other dogs and finds a lot of security with them. She would likely do well and gain more confidence in a home with another dog who is laid back, confident and well balanced. She shares a fence with chickens and goats and has shown no interest in them. Her one interaction with cats was at a park and she nearly jumped out of her skin when it hissed at her. We suspect she could live successfully with cats and a proper introduction.
Mugsy is super food motivated and can usually work through her fear of a new situation, person, object… when food is involved. She likes to chase the ball, but doesn’t yet understand the concept of bringing it back. Toys are interesting but she is often unsure of what to do with them. She is great in the car, enjoys hiking and would make a good hiking partner for someone. Mugsy is easily handled, enjoys being brushed and pet.
Because Mugsy can startle easily with fast or unpredictable movements, a home without very young children may be an ideal fit. She is curious about kids and would likely be fine with children age 8+.
Mugsy will need someone willing to take the time to continue introducing her to new situations, people, sounds…. and work on building her confidence when introducing new things. With the huge amount of progress she has made in a very short time we have nothing but high hopes for her recovery.
She is crate trained, keeps it clean and finds a lot of security in the crate.
Mugsy is very healthy, her coat condition has improved daily with better nutrition and brushing. She weighs 74lbs.
And Mugsy wants it to be mentioned again, she loves food!
Mugsy is spayed, vaccinated(DHPP, Rabies, Bordetella)and microchipped.
