Facts about Sweetie

  • Breed: Mixed Breed (Small) Mix
  • Color: Tan/Yellow/Fawn
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
  • Sex: Female
This 2-3 year old lady arrived from Phoenix, AZ after being transferred between a couple of rescues. We learned that she had previously needed to be handled with leather arm gloves and that rescuers worked with her for several months to overcome what they described as “ptsd.”

Here’s what we’ve seen: a little pup whose name “Sweetie” belies a scared but sometimes sassy personality. She will growl to warn off people she doesn’t know or trust from approaching her kennel. With people she does trust, she will happily accept your food, retreat, come to the front of the kennel, retreat, then maybe hop on your lap for a walk -- but maybe not. Once she’s outside, she’s much happier, wagging her tail and looking for attention. Still, we’re looking for a savvy handler to adopt Sweetie and continue to work with her on her behaviors.

We don’t have a whole lot of information on this girl’s temperament yet. We haven’t tested her with other dogs very much, but she seems to be fine with dogs who are about her size. Because of her behaviors, we’d recommend a home with older children. She does try to keep her kennel clean here, and she does walk fairly well on a leash. Sweetie just needs a person who will earn her trust, provide structure and stability, and teach her how to behave around people.

Our Adoption Process...

More information about adopting from the Meridian Canine Rescue:

No paperwork is required prior to meeting the dog(s).

Unless the dog is located in a foster home, which is indicated in his/her bio, you are more than welcome to come visit with the dog during our adoption hours. We are open Wed-Sun, 12-7, at 501 E Scenery Ln, Ste 100 in Meridian, ID.

Before finalizing an adoption, we ask that all family members living in the household, including any other dogs, participate in a supervised meet-and-greet at our location. We love getting the opportunity to talk with families and introduce them to the amazing dogs at our Rescue. This interaction gives us all a chance to get to know the dogs better and to discuss any potential challenges or concerns. We provide post-adoption support for life, so the on-site meet-and-greet is the first step to a great relationship.

We no longer breed label, as we don't DNA test and are instead focusing on the individual dogs and their personalities. We'd be happy to discuss this decision with you at the Rescue.

The adoption fee for each dog is set at $300 and is used to cover our expenses. The adoption fee for bonded pairs is $450, and we do offer 10% discounts for seniors, military/former military, and first responders. Because we receive no funding and have no vet clinic on-site, our standard adoption fee is set to recoup the money we've spent caring for your dog before you take him/her home.

All dogs are examined, spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped (with lifetime enrollment). We provide additional medical care as needed.

Once an MCR dog, always an MCR dog. We will support you and your dog for the rest of his or her life. We've gathered resources and references, so there are plenty of people to help you if you have any questions or concerns after bringing your new family member home.
