My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hartford is a beautiful dog of approx 2 years of age and 28 lbs. He looks like a cairn terrier mix.
He is a sweet boy, well behaved, quiet, gets along with the other dogs but is not one to run and play very much with them, but enjoys their company. He does seem to be fairly well house trained and will run out to the yard with the other dogs to go to the bathroom. He has a nice disposition and just likes to hang out wherever his people are. We prefer a household with children over the age of 12 since he is a quiet guy.

We do regular bloodwork on all of our rescues. Hartford's showed high liver enzymes, so we looked further into his lab results including bloodwork and ultra sound. The results show evidence of chronic kidney changes due to a congenital or inherited kidney abnormality. He has no outward signs of a problem and is a happy and playful pup. However because of the kidney changes he is a special needs dog who eats a special diet, is on one medication, and will need periodic (every 3-6 months) followup bloodwork to monitor his kidney function. There is no way to know if or when his kidneys will worsen but you really wouldn't know he was sick if you met him!

The total adoption fee of $450 and includes the required interstate health certificate and transport , spay/neuter, shots including rabies, bordatella, parvo, lepto, distemper and canine influenza, and micro chip with a lifetime pre paid registration. The total amount is payable to Shaggy Dog Rescue which is a 501c3. We also provide a coupon for a free wellness visit to the South Wilton Vet group if convenient for you. Some of our dogs are still in Texas in foster care. Our application is online at http://houstonshaggydogrescue.org/application-process/
