My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Available for adoption in NW Indiana/Chicagoland only.

Gracie's puppies are likely Black Lab/AmStaff mixes. Mama Gracie is a beautiful AmStaff Terrier (who's pictured). An AmStaff Terrier is a type of "Pit Bull". If you don't want a Pittie, this isn't the right litter for you. Mama Gracie is a 50-pound low rider (has short legs) and we think her pups will be between 45-65 pounds.

Harry is the most independent of the litter. He's confident and acts older than the others, likely because his foster brother is a huge adult pittie. He loves to explore outside and really loves his kitty brother, who he plays and cuddles with often. Harry is potty trained, and loves toys. He loves to cuddle on the couch with his foster Mom. He's a great mix of independent and loving. A very well-balanced dog, and beautiful. He's one of the two largest of the litter.

We normal help our local shelters, but Gracie and her pups found themselves in an open intake (aka kill) shelter in Missouri and couldn't find local rescue help. When their time ran out we decided we couldn't let them be euthanized, so we made arrangements to get them up to us in Chicagoland.

We are looking for homes that are interested in providing excellent vet care and food and are willing to commit to doing a basic obedience class during the puppies' first year.

The adoption fee includes 3 DA2PPV puppy shots (administered 3 weeks apart) 2 Intranasal Bordatella vaccines, a 1-year rabies vaccine, preventative de-worming, microchipping, and the spay/neuter surgery. This is their basic preventative vetting for the first year of their life, and it's all included in the adoption fee. Your vet may recommend the H3N2 flu vaccine, the Lyme vaccine, and/or Leptospirosis vaccine, but these are all situationally dependent.

The adoption fee of $250 is payable to Happy Tails Rescue. The microchip costs $10.99 to register, this is done at the time of adoption on the phone with the microchip company. You will need a credit or debit card for this.

Why adopt a puppy from a rescue, instead of buy one from a breeder or store? And why are they so expensive? Rescuers are after one thing -- finding the best possible forever homes for their pups and ensuring their health for the long term. The adoption fees allow us to vet the pups fully, feed them excellent quality food, and take care of their basic needs until they're ready to go home.

Happy Tails Rescue Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit foster-based rescue based in Munster, Indiana. We have no shelter, all of our animals are cared for in loving foster homes until their forever home match is found. All of our animals are fully vetted before adoption, including distemper, rabies, and bordatella vaccines, a heartworm test, fecal test, microchip, and are spayed/neutered. Adoption fees range from $150-$350. If you're interested in meeting one of our animals please fill out an application first. If approved we will then arrange a meet and greet. Happy Tails does not do same day adoptions because we do a short home visit to make sure our animals are being placed in safe environments.
