About Crazy Cavies Guinea Pig Rescue Inc.

About Our Rescue Group...

Crazy Cavies is a Non-Profit 501(c)3, No Kill guinea pig only rescue that provides a temporary safe haven for abandoned, neglected and/or homeless guinea pigs, located in Lauderhill, FL.

Crazy Cavies Guinea Pig Rescue educates the public about guinea pigs, provides a temporary safe haven for abandoned guinea pigs, and finds quality forever homes for guinea pigs. We partner with other organizations to stop the unnecessary euthanasia of guinea pigs.

Crazy Cavies Guinea Pig Rescue Inc. was founded on March 18, 2008 in the state of Florida. The rescue is operated primarily by Jeremy and Tracy Henle with help from our webmaster Dana Deboer. We also have help from foster homes and volunteers in our community.

We started unofficially in late 2006 by taking in guinea pigs from local petstores that we worked at and finding other homes for them because the petstores were not allowed to re-sell them. We were in return subjected to the horrendous conditions the stores keep guinea pigs in and horrible advice that the local petstores were giving out (still goes on) and by late 2007 we decided that the need for a rescue organization that focused solely on guinea pigs was needed and therefore in March 2008 Crazy Cavies Guinea Pig Rescue Inc. was born!! Later that year we became an official 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization.

All of the guinea pigs in our care are weighed weekly, housed on fleece bedding in cubes and coroplast (C&C) cages, fed Oxbow brand guinea pig pellets, given an unlimited amount of grass hay (timothy hay, bluegrass hay, and/or orchard grass) and given veggies daily.
When a guinea pig is surrendered to us or we rescue them they are quarantined. All of them are quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, treated for mites and taken to the vet if deemed necessary. We then spay/neuter them once we deem them healthy.

We only have a limited amount of time to travel and hold adoptions. We are pretty flexible with dates and times for adoptions and work with you the best we can.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our rescue is located in Lauderhill, FL off the corner of Oakland Park Blvd and 441. We will give you directions to our rescue when we decide to interview you. We do this for the safety of our piggies and also ourselves as the rescue is operated out of our home and other foster homes. Hopefully we will have a seperate physical shelter soon where you can come and visit anytime.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption process- Takes 5-7 days from application to adoption
1. Please READ and UNDERSTAND each one of our policies located below.
2. Email us and complete an adoption application and send it to us for review.
3. After we review your application and approve it (24-48 hours) we will schedule a date and time for you to come over and look at the piggies that are available for adoption.

Our adoption fee for all pigs is $20 each or $30 for a true bonded pair (it will be marked in the written description of the piggies). We accept cash, check or credit card.

We prefer emails for contact because we usually are busy with full-time jobs to support the rescue and only get to our voicemails very late at night. You may call also if you have any questions but it may take up to 48 hours to reply during busy days. At the time of adoption there is an adoption agreement that will be signed between Crazy Cavies Guinea Pig Rescue Inc. and yourself.

1. You must adopt two cavies unless you already have one or more.

Why? Guinea pigs are herd animals and must have the same species interaction to live to their fullest potential. Would you want to live alone with no interaction or way to communicate with humans? Doesn't sound like much fun does it!

2. Must have a C&C cage or custom built cage or be free range (no petstore cages). 7.5 square feet is the minimum for 2 guinea pigs. Most petstore cages are less than that so don't bother spending your life savings on one. Get a bigger cage for less money from us! You may also buy the materials and make one yourself.

These size requirements are based upon the guidelines on

3. The adoption fee is $20 per guinea pig or $30 for a true bonded pair.

Why? This modest fee helps fund our rescue to keep operating.
