Aubrey Bio

Aubrey came to TIGR in Aug 2016, from a puppy mill/ hoarding situation, living in deplorable conditions with little human contact.

After three years in foster care, Aubrey is learning to be held, petted and playful!  Aubrey has found her voice and becomes so animated at dinner time!  She play-bows and barks and just gets goofy until you open her crate and she gets in.  She hangs out on the sofa with her people and other dogs.  She is still shy around new people and doesn’t warm up to strangers quickly.

She now allows hugs and to be held, but you must get past her initial fight-or-flight response which subsides quickly.

Aubrey needs a special situation to call his forever home.  She will not be for a first-time dog owner or even a first time Iggy owner.  She needs to have someone that has had experience with rescued mill dogs and dogs that are fearful of people.

UPDATED: 04/18/2019

Aubrey has decided that her people can be trusted.  She now sits by her foster mom all the time and likes to be petted and touched when she is.  The sofa and patio swing are included in her safe space.  Such progress for this sweet girl!

She will most likely remain shy of new people and places.  She'll need a quiet, calm home with at least one other IG to keep her company.

Feb 2018:

Posed so elegantly in her butterscotch and cream coat, Aubrey is as sweet and as gentle as she is beautiful. Not to mention playful, particularly when she finds a toy she likes or when frisking or cuddling with her foster family’s other dogs, especially her best friend, Ivy Rose, who’s also available for adoption.

Having entered our care from a hoarding situation in August 2016, and thought to have been born around 2008, Aubrey has grown increasingly comfortable and confident over time, and now enjoys attending Meet and Greets where she meets new people and dogs.

Due to her inauspicious beginnings, she appreciates the many benefits of her newfound freedom, including soaking up the sunshine and prancing round the fenced yard. She’s also flourishing in the calmness and stability of her current environment. She’s still startled by loud noises, however, from thunder to tracks roaring past, and reacts by attempting to flee. But she is learning to accept being held securely and comforted by her fosters whenever she gets frightened.

Still skittish about being picked up, and definitely not a "lap dog", her response is to run, and should she escape out the door or bolt from the yard, she would be impossible to catch. And yet, this most deserving of dogs has the potential to flourish and shine! All she needs now are patient and attentive adopters in a quiet home with a securely fenced yard, where, closely supervised, she can run, together with another gentle dog or two for companionship.
