My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Memphis is a very affectionate little guy who enjoys being with his family all of the time. He loves belly rubs, head scratches, cuddling time and any kiss he can steal from you. He will often tilt his head when you are talking to him as if he understands exactly what you are saying. It’s pretty cute. He is all around adorable little guy that loves affection. Memphis is approximately 10 months to 1 year old and currently weighs 22 lbs.

Here is what else Memphis’ foster family had to say:

Memphis is a sweet little guy who loves human attention and affection. He is very mellow and easy going and loves the company of other dogs and his family. He is very sociable and friendly with everyone and every animal he meets. His sweet demeanor is wonderful to be around and very calming. He loves it when he sees other people especially kids when we are on our walks and is a very happy all around boy. He loves to sleep in your bed with you and you won’t even know he is there. Memphis is an all around happy dog who LOVES to be with his family.

Memphis is a healthy, active pup who does not show any signs of health issues. He is a young boy and still has many puppy tendencies. His energy level is low to moderate. He’s seems to be a pretty laid back dog but does enjoy a good run with his other dog friends. Memphis’ shedding is low to moderate. Memphis is very sociable and friendly with everyone he meets and loves to show his affection by greeting everyone. He has not shown any form of aggression towards any person or any animal. He is very social and is not shy or afraid of anyone.

He gets along really well with our 70 lb dog and they do a lot of romping, running around and playing together. They are constantly stealing toys from each other. Memphis will approach our cats to check them out but does not chase or threaten them at all. He has little interest in them but does try to cuddle with them periodically however, they’re not really interested.

Memphis is going to need a family who understands that he is a puppy and all the fun and trials that come with having a puppy. We have been working on his training and he is coming along nicely and is eager to please but he still has a ways to go. He does need constant direction with his house training. He seems to recognize that the door is where he needs to go but he does not bark or know how to signal very well when wanting out. You have to make sure you are watching or that you just get him out several times a day. Consistency with this is a must to keep him on track. He does go outside frequently with our dog Buster and has been using the back yard to do his business the majority of the time. We are working on his signaling to keep his accidents to a minimum. Like any puppy however, he will steal food if given a chance, will hoard shoes and other things that belong to his people, will try to jump up on people, etc. He absolutely hates being crated.

Memphis does respond to come really well and his stay command while at the door is getting better. We are working on his sit, off and leave it command which are coming along nicely. He is learning how to properly greet people and he can’t really counter surf because his legs are too short. For the most part however he is content chewing on bones, dog toys and stuffed animals. As of right now Memphis just loves to be where you are and to play with his buddy Buster. He enjoys going for walks and playing with his teddy bears, chew toys and bones. He loves to cuddle and hang out with his family all of the time. If someone is willing to work with Memphis and continue with his training, he will be an absolutely wonderful family pet. When we are away from the home we do crate him but as mentioned above, he hates it and will bark, so he would not be a good candidate for apartment living at this time.

Memphis walks pretty good on a leash. He will pull to sniff trees and crosses back and forth on the sidewalk but overall he is an easy walker. My 5 1/2 year old has been able to walk him however, Memphis will tug on the leash. Memphis is a little nervous in our van still and will try to stay close to you so needs to be tied in the backseat.

He deserves to be in a home with a family who will include him in on their every day routine and activities and spend lots of time with him. He loves to be close to you and will want to sleep with you in your bed and won’t stir til morning. He treasures his treats and will find places to bury them throughout the house including your bed pillows. A home with access to a yard is recommended. He would thoroughly enjoy the company of another dog especially for those times when he is left alone as he doesn’t like to be by himself and to follow along with and learn from. With someone who is willing to work on his house training and crating if needed he’ll make the perfect match as he is truly a sweet boy.
