We welcome specific questions. Due to high volume of applications, we may not be able to respond immediately. Your patience is appreciated.
If an animal is on our website, it is still available but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, it is in your best interest to submit an application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process.
We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.
As an all-volunteer, foster home based organization, ARF does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we must give priority to pre-approved applicants.
Female, spayed, about 2 years old (as of May 2017), microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, currently in a foster home, will be making appearances at ARF Adoption Events (see https://www.facebook.com/A.R.F.Illinois for times and locations), since she was briefly a mom, she has the special “momcat” adoption fee of $75.
Pewter is a beautiful Russian Blue-looking girl, gray from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail. She is a very petite little girl even though she is about 2 years old. She was rescued from an animal control where she had a litter of kittens who, unfortunately, did not survive.
Pewter is very much a people cat. She is sweet and cuddly and follows her foster mom around the house. She loves to sleep in bed with her people and purrs up a storm. She is also very conversational. She would probably do best in a home where there are people around much of the time. She is very easy going and does well with other cats. She does not care for soft food or kitty treats, but peanut butter is a real treat for her when we have breakfast together.
Unlike a lot of cats who spend most of their time sleeping, Pewter is awake much of the day and wants to play. She would do well in a house full of people. She would also enjoy having a kitty playmate that would like to rough and tumble.
If you are interested in meeting Pewter, you can fill out an online adoption application at http://www.arf-il.org/application.html Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting with the cat. Filling out the application does not obligate you in any way.
If you’re invited to meet an animal, plan to arrive on time or early,
as we cannot hold animals.
All household members must be present at time of adoption, including dogs.
We appreciate your cooperation.

You'll receive a copy, too, at to help you keep track of which pets you've inquired about, and which shelters and rescues you've emailed.
NOTE: Some shelters have physical locations you can visit; some of these shelters may only have pets for a limited time, so please do not wait for a reply—just go visit the shelter! Other organizations are rescue groups run by busy volunteers who may take a while to reply. You can find information about the shelter or rescue group caring for this pet, and their adoption procedures, on the pet's details page on Adopt-a-Pet.com.
