Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Rex is a very handsome, loyal and intelligent, seven-year-old, 101-pound male Doberman looking for a loving guardian.
Rex is a low-key guy who doesn’t play fetch and doesn’t enjoy toys. He likes to hang out and enjoy the company of the people he loves. He doesn’t like other dogs, but he is living with a couple of cats who he gets along with just fine.
With his people, Rex is mushy and lovable. With strangers, he’s often guarded and tense. So, to protect him from his urges to guard the home, Rex is kept behind a baby gate when people like repairmen come to the home. He quickly adjusts to include people that are frequent visitors like family and friends. He has not been crated because he’s so well-behaved in the home and perfectly housebroken, but he respects the baby gate.
Rex’s humans are expecting a baby in September and don’t feel that Rex would be comfortable in a home with a newborn.
He was recently diagnosed with wobbler syndrome, a disease of the cervical spine that is commonly seen in large breeds and especially Dobermans. He takes steroids to keep that in check. Because of the Wobbler’s, he only takes short walks and uses a raised bowl to drink and eat from.
Rex is looking for an all-adult home with a fenced-in-yard. He is neutered, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested negative, and up-to-date on vaccines. His adoption fee of $100 includes his food, meds and everything you need to care for Rex.
To meet and possibly adopt him, please contact sheri@petraits.com for an adoption application. He is currently living in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
