My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kenny is a very special dog and has won the hearts of many. He was originally rescued from a hoarding situation where he had very little contact with humans other than food being dumped on the ground each day for him and many other dogs. After being rescued he was taken in by the shelter’s Assistant Director where he lived with a family including other pets and children. He slowly began learning to trust. Although still wary, it was felt by all that it was time for Kenny to find his forever home and start bonding with his new family. It will take a very special someone who is patient, loving and willing to give Kenny the space needed to continue learning to trust and find his way as a valued family member.

We think Kenny could be the poster child for Ugly Mutts. We have no idea of the different breeds that are in his makeup, and there appears to be several, but he is just simply adorable nonetheless. He is approximately 3 years old and currently weighs 29 lbs.

Here Is What Kenny’s Foster Family Had To Say:

Although Kenny is a very timid dog initially, he is the sweetest dog. We believe he will make someone a wonderful, life-long companion. He is quiet but you can see that he is very interested in what is going on around him. He takes everything in. He is an independent soul who will need your patience initially but when you receive your first kisses it will make the effort feel so worthwhile. Kenny is as healthy as they come and healed very nicely after being neutered. He is an old soul with a bounce in his step, with a great temperament. He is a true little gentleman with a moderate energy level. He has a very interesting coat and we have not touched it as we figured that should be between him and his new family. He is kind of scruffy looking but he is totally adorably cute!

Kenny loves going for walks and will continue on for as long as you like. He loves going for walks and is a dream on a leash. He can startle when strangers come up to us but although timid at first, he is friendly after initial introductions. We haven’t had an opportunity to have him playing with children but he does loves to watch them and shows a genuine interest in them. He was initially scared when the school bell went off behind our house but now he goes and checks out what is happening at recess. He is also timid of strange dogs that come up to us on our walks but he is starting to run and play with the dogs in the home. He also now enjoys curling up with the other dogs on the sofa. In any situation, even where he is very scared, he has never shown any signs of aggression whatsoever with anyone.

He is basically shy with everyone and it will take a special person to welcome Kenny into their home. He has been with us for 10 days now and is finally showing signs of being bolder and trusting. He even came up on the bed by himself. He is just going to need someone that is willing to give him the time to find his way and allow him the room to come to things in his own time. This is very easy to do however as he is just such a gentle little dog who has wonderful manners, few demands and whose affection is a true sign that you have earned his trust.

When in the home, Kenny enjoys sitting and watching the world go by or coming to sit beside you for a cuddle while you watch tv. He has lovely manners in the home. He is fully house trained. We do not use a crate for him and we don’t believe he should ever be crated as it is not needed. The only thing to watch for in the home is that he doesn’t bolt out the door so you need to be careful and know his whereabouts when coming and going from the home. He has never tried to escape from the backyard. He is leash trained and is wonderful walking on leash, stopping, sitting, etc. He is ready for a walking companion. He also loves riding in the car.

Kenny needs someone who will be patient with him and who is able to take things slow and steady with him. Even intially ignoring Kenny and just giving him the time and space to warm up at his own pace but you will see progress with him coming around more and more each day. It would be great if someone was willing to come and spend some time with him so you could get a good idea of who he and to make sure he is the right match for you.

Kenny would not do well in an apartment as he will bark when he hears strange noises. It is also in Kenny’s best interest to have a yard to play in and to watch the goings on. Another gentle dog in the home would be good company for Kenny and would give him more opportunities to learn about being part of a family. We believe a home with adults only or older and patient children would be best. Patience and acceptance are key.
