My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Willie is coming to us from a loving home where he has been a valued member of the family since he was brought home as a baby. He is an intelligent, well behaved boy who needs space to romp and play. Willie is up to date on his vaccinations and is neutered. He will be 3 years old on July 31st. He is a tall dog with a slim build and currently weighs 47 lbs.

Here Is What Willie Had To Say:

I am a Standard Poodle. I am a very proud, noble and good-natured fellow who makes friends easily. I love my family and playing with the children and I even like the cat (although she doesn’t like me pulling her tail). I love it when people come to visit and I always welcome strangers. If you ask me for a hug, I will jump up and give you the nicest of hugs.

I am sure you know that I am one of the most trainable breeds as well. I know “sit”, “shake-a-paw” and you can’t find a better gentleman on lead. I know to automatically sit when you stop walking. and walk on again as soon as you tell me to “heel”. If I am into something that you think I shouldn’t be, all you have to do is tell me and I will quickly come over for some praise. I love attention and affection and I am always trying my best to do whatever my family asks of me. I did go to obedience training when I was a puppy but I need some kind of activity to keep my mind occupied. Perhaps further training or some sort of sport that you enjoy and I could be a part of?

My favourite things are playing fetch, chewing on bones and just lounging with my family watching tv. I like to follow my special person around all the time and at night I curl up on the floor beside their bed and sleep through the night without causing a problem. I will admit there is one thing that my family is not very happy about. As they are pretty busy all the time and can’t always get me out for a good walk, I try to help them out by walking myself. I can’t help it that there is no fence and I am not sure where the boundaries are. When I hear them calling me and I don’t immediately come back, I am really just trying to save them the trouble. I guess however that is causing a problem as they are afraid I might get hit by a car on the busy roadway. I guess I should be somewhere there is a secure fence so I can learn boundaries. Some of the neighbours don’t appreciate me dirtying on their lawns either and I guess I can respect that.

When my family leaves the house they put me in my kennel and I am fine with that and just quietly wait for their return. A few times when I thought they were taking too long to get home, I opened the latches on my kennel to go in search of a snack. They cottoned on to that behaviour pretty quick and now they tie the door shut on my kennel so I can’t get out. If you do leave me out to freely roam the house while you are away, I can’t promise I won’t take food if it is left out on the counter – I just can’t resist! I don’t get into any other trouble however and would never chew anything I shouldn’t like furniture or anything that doesn’t belong to me.

I really have a very big heart and I love being part of everything. I really need a family that will include me in their day to day activities, who like to play a game of fetch from time to time and who can provide me with a safe place to run and play. I am currently living with another dog but he is a little old man, a Shih Tzu and he doesn’t like to play much and I guess I am too big and sometimes hurt him without meaning to. If there was another dog in the home that liked to play with me, I would love that but I wouldn’t mind being the only dog and getting all the attention either as long as I am not left alone all the time by myself. I understand that people have to work and that’s okay but be prepared to spend lots of time cuddling and playing when you get home.

What I really want is to be someone’s best friend, to be a part of a loving family who appreciates all I have to offer as a companion. Deep down I am just a big baby with a big heart and I hope that someone can appreciate me for who I am and help me be the best I can be.
