My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We all agreed that Ruby, a truly beautiful 18 - 24 month old, 12 lb Schnauzer/Yorkie mix should be a candidate for a ticket on transport to her forever home in Colorado. Ruby passed her temperament testing with flying colors but was facing euthanasia in a high-kill Texas shelter due to lack of space. Immediate action was necessary...and Farfel's was thrilled to step up to save Ruby's life.

Ruby, while being just a small pup, loves the outdoors and would be so excited to accompany her favorite people on neighborhood walks..or even a beautiful hike would be a joy for Ruby. She is so excited when it's time to go on an adventure...we picture her being overjoyed to accompany her family just about anywhere a small..and very sweet dog is welcome.

Once Ruby is comfortable in her surroundings, she's a very friendly and engaging girl. She's always so happy to socialize with dog-loving people and their friendly pups on her outings around the neighborhood with her rescuer. Or you can find her lying quietly snuggled close to her favorite humans with the most contented look on her sweet face.

Ruby thoroughly enjoys her favorite people and lets them know that they are wonderful and so special to her. She engages with her humans in such a positive way... and there's no question that kindness and attention can get her tail wagging with excitement.

At the end of the day...it's all about a warm lap and lots of cuddling and love for Ruby. She is a world class lap dog but would always be happy to share a lap..and a belly rub..with another gentle dog. Ruby tries so hard to be a well-behaved and respectful girl...it's wonderful how low-maintenance she is. All she asks for is love, kindness..and treats are always gratefully accepted.

We feel that Ruby would be a great addition to any household that desires a small lap dog to spend lots of time with. She is a take-along kind of girl...and would be perfect for retirees who are searching for a fuzzy best friend. Ruby would also be just right for a younger family with older dog-loving kids. We feel that Ruby is too sensitive to be left for long hours while her people work outside the home. But she would be a great companion for a family that uses their home as their office. She would be the perfect foot warmer and be thrilled with the companionship of her family.

Ruby thinks that hugs and kisses are the greatest things ever...even better than a great treat. She's also learning that the car leads to great adventures and would always be game for riding shotgun or can even fit perfectly under the seat in a plane to accompany her family everywhere a small, very sweet dog is welcome.

Ruby is a non-shedding girl with a coat that will become gorgeous and cottony-soft as it grows in. Ruby is being treated for dermatitis. This is a condition that is very common in shelter dogs and comes from stress, fleas and unclean conditions..and result in hair loss and itchy skin. Ruby is currently being treated for derm with oral medication and medicated baths. She's making great progress... and with continued coat care and great nutrition (and a salmon oil supplement would be perfect) she'll be the most gorgeous girl around.

Ruby will arrive on transport in Boulder on Friday 6/30/17. If interested in this snuggly and sweet family best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
