My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello!! My name is Jackson (or Jax). My absolute favorite things in the world are tennis balls, food, and attention.

I am a big boy (Foster Mom calls me a giant puppy), but I will be careful to not hurt you. I won’t launch myself into your lap – I will keep my back paws on the ground – but I do love to lie across your lap for a cuddle if invited. If you’re standing up, I won’t jump up on you for a hug unless I have been invited. If you are sitting on a sofa, I would dearly love to be there with you so you could rub my tummy.

I would seriously like to play fetch 24/7, and I am stellar at catching a tennis ball. Foster Mom rolled some flat, round thingy over the snow for me one day – I would like to chase that more times. It can fly in the air and I can catch it too!

Pay no attention to the photo of me in the bathroom. I thought I would help Foster Mom get that white stuff off the tube so I could shred the tube for her. I guess that’s not how it’s done.

I know people come to our website looking for a traditional looking Border Collie, and that's not him. But he does have many BC behaviors, such as problem solving ability and a talent for fetch. Last night his ball went under the deck stairs. He looked to me, but I told him to get it himself. He crawled around and under the deck and got the ball. Then I told him to bring it to me, give, and the game continued.

Jackson would love to have a canine sibling to run and play with, but we've learned it needs to be a balanced dog (not aggressive and not submissive) who will give him boundaries. He will respect that and they will be best friends - we have tested that with both a neutered alpha male and a young, balanced, spayed female Husky. My 12 year old BC female does not play and wrestle, and he keeps trying to convince her, so they have built an uneasy alliance. She treats him as if he's an annoying puppy, but if he whimpers, she makes sure I know the giant puppy is in distress!

Jax came into MWBCR foster care in November, 2016, with heart worms. He was presented as a Border Collie / cross. I can see BC traits in him – his focus on his human, his intelligence, and his total love of fetch.

He completed heart worm treatment successfully and was cleared as of March 2017 and is ready for his forever home!
