The rumors are true...this bachelor is up for grabs! This beefy hunk is Rex and he's ready to settle down with someone who is ready to make a lifelong commitment. We think this dark handsome gentleman is a Lab mix approximately 3 years old. Rex is looking for someone who enjoys having fun and has the energy for a run, walk or hike. He likes car rides - he will just lay back and enjoy the ride; he will never criticize your driving or tell you to slow down. After a fun day he would love to have someone who likes to cuddle up and chill out on the couch, he is even willing to watch your favorite chick-flick. He can be shy in new circumstances and he may want to try escape the situation, but with patience and understanding he will be at ease in no time. He would not mind co-habitating with another dog, as he is submissive and enjoys playing and wrestling. He isn't fond of cats (really cats are not fond of him but don't tell him that) as he likes to chase them, so a no-cats home for him! He is good with children and is currently sharing his home with a six-month old baby. Rex realizes that it takes both parties to make a relationship work, so he would like to attend formal training. He believes that this will not only help with understanding each others needs but it will also help form a lifelong bond with each other. He is responsive to correction - he knows "sit" and "stay" really well and walks well on a leash. He does well in his man cave (crate) and hasn't had any potty accidents in his current foster home. He would love to have a fenced-in yard where you both can have fun and play safely and as a matter of fact, if there is a hole to be dug he will gladly help you, as he is an expert hole digger. He's a silly boy who loves to snuggle and lay belly-up for belly rubs.
Rex was rescued from a kill shelter and was on the list that no dog wants to be on. He is currently receiving treatment for Heartworms and will be ready for his new home sometime in early October, but don't wait - this bachelor won't stay single for long. If you're not afraid of a lifelong commitment, you can contact Rex by filling out an application and his people will get back to you. You may be the lucky one he chooses to spend his life with.

Medical Note: This dog has been treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: . Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label.   Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption.  There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

Our Adoption Process...

Step 1: Find Fido

Review our online dog bios, email us if you have any questions. At SOS, we want to make the RIGHT right match, and that means helping you and Fido start a relationship – sometimes from a long distance.

Take your time, explore your options, consider your home and what kind of companion will fit in your lifestyle.

Step 2: Complete Our Application

Once you think you have found the right dog for you, please complete our online application.

At SOS, we don’t just want to make a match, we want to make the right match. To do this, we need your help; we know our dogs, but we don’t know you yet – our application helps us get to know you!

Step 3: Have a Talk

We will review the application and if it appears to be a good match for the selected dog, we will arrange for a time to talk with you over the phone.

Step 4: Meet Your Match

If, after the phone interview, the match seems to be a good one, we will be happy to arrange a meet-n-greet with you and the dog, if the dog is local. Meet-n-greets will be scheduled in the order they are requested.

Step 5: Application Screening

Once everyone has met (if the dog is local), and the match seems to be a good one, a designated SOS volunteer will check your landlord, vet, and personal references, as relevant. We may also require a home visit or adopter meeting.

Step 6: Finalize The Adoption

If the match is a good one, you will be informed via email of the adoption decision, and provided with instructions for how to pay the adoption donation and complete our adoption contract/addendum(s).

Step 7: Pick Up Your New Best Friend!

Once the adoption is finalized, congratulations! We will contact you to make arrangements to pick up your new family member!
**Please note that additional vetting, quarantine and/or waiting periods may be required depending upon your state of residence.

All of our dogs are age appropriately vaccinated prior to adoption. All of our dogs have been spayed/neutered and tested/treated for common canine disease.
