Heidi's Story...
HEIDI is a sweet, timid Border Collie mix female pup who, like her fictional namesake, needs to find a new home after being orphaned. Well perhaps not orphaned, but Heidi was dumped at a small farm out in the country. Being a Border Collie, it was her instinct to chase the chickens and cows, so the owner of that farm ask for the rescue's help in finding Heidi a forever home. Prior to the kindness of the family at whose home Heidi was dumped, we do think she may have been abused. She was very shy and timid when first rescued. Her foster says that, once she realizes she is safe and trusts, she is a happy puppy who shows lots of affection. She loves to be carried like a baby. She also loves her fellow Border Collie mix and friend, Maka, who came into the recue around the same time. She is in a foster home with kids 9 years of age and up and she gets along great with them. She also gets along with other dogs. She is frightened by the leash but her foster is working on that. She is a fast learner. She has been vetted, vaccinated and spayed. At 7 months of age, she weighs 32 pounds and we expect she will be a medium-sized dog once fully grown. She tested negative for heartworm and tick borne diseases. She will be microchipped prior to adoption. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Heidi if it means she will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer rescue to cover at least part of the cost of the veterinary care this dog has received.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Heidi, a Union City Border Collie puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Border Collie for sale in Union City, or seeking a Border Collie puppy from a breeder in Union City.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Union City already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Union City breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Border Collie breeders who help with Border Collie rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Union City paves the way for another one to be saved.
