My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hemi and his son, Tebow, came to BARC after being abandoned and left without food for three weeks. Poor Hemi was abandoned tied to a tree with a cable. The cable became wrapped around his leg and cut off his circulation. Needless to say, their former owner is being charged with animal cruelty. Click Here to see a news story about what investigators said was one of the worse cases of animal cruelty they had ever seen. Be warned, the video is not for the faint of heart.

These dogs came from Alabama, a state in which BARC usually doesn't operate, but animal control and law enforcement were determined to get them into a rescue program and we responded due to the urgency of the situation and the desire to work together with law enforcement and animal control to see a maximum sentence enforced on the offender.

Hemi is six years old and has an excellent temperament despite the extreme neglect he has suffered. Hemi has a fairly lengthy medical rehabilitation before he will be available for adoption. In addition to being severely emaciated,(Hemi is pictured here after four weeks of good nutrition. Can you imagine what he looked like when investigators found him? He is currently being treated for hookworms and will also have to go through heartworm treatment and be neutered before he is ready for adoption. Hemi's leg is healing very well and with the loving care of his foster home and BARC veterinarian's, we expect him to make a full recovery. Hemi wants nothing more than to be loved by humans. He also gets along well with other dogs. Hemi is being fostered by Amber and Greg in Tallahassee.

The medical rehabilitation of Hemi and his son, Tebow, will be very expensive. We appreciate any and all donations for their care.
