Hi All...I'm Dash and though I might be a little slow to warm up, it won't take long and then you'll see my sweet boy self emerge. So I'll benefit from some socializing in my new home. Plenty of positive reinforcement as I'm encountering new people, animals and situations will help me become more confidant. I was playful and liked being with the children in my home and was friendly and playful with my smallish dog friend there. I like chew toys, playing, looking out the window on car rides and attention. I still need a little help with potty training but a routine, scheduled meal times, always going out just before bedtime and lots of positive reinforcement when I'm successful should help me a lot. I need an adopter who wants to include me in things and truly make me apart of his/her life. If that could be you, please visit me soon.

About Vanderburgh Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

The Vanderburgh Humane Society, Inc. (VHS), a tax exempt, 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 1957 to provide protection for homeless animals, intervention for animals in abusive environments, and community education to encourage prevention of animal abuse and pet overpopulation. The VHS receives no tax-based funding whatsoever. Therefore, it depends on the generosity of the corporate community and the public at large to continue, and hopefully expand, the much needed services it offers.

Located in Evansville, Indiana, the VHS serves as a surrender and adoption agency for unwanted pets. In addition to finding homes for animals, the VHS also works to build public awareness of the problem of homeless and abandoned pets. Through special events, media coverage and other outreach activities we hope to reduce the flow of animals to our shelter.

Our mission:
Leading our community to eliminate pet overpopulation through Spay/Neuter, Adoption, and Humane Education. Alter. Adopt. Adore.

We also offer a Safe Pets Program, which provides a safe haven to pets of local families who are victims of domestic violence, working with a local shelter, and have no place for their pets to go in a dangerous situation.

Our Pit Stop Program provides funding for any resident of Vanderburgh County to get their pit bull-type dog spayed or neutered at no cost. Only a $10 rabies shot is required if the pet is not current.

We provide bi-weekly Emergency Pet Food Assistance to local families having a rough time providing for their pets.

Our Pet-Assisted Therapy program brings volunteers to local nursing homes and assisted living centers with gentle-tempered dogs who are up for adoption.
