My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name and how old are you? Hi my name is Poppy and I am a 9 months old!

How much do you weigh? I am 41lbs of mushy gushy love!

What do you look like? I am tan with a dark muzzle, and I have beautiful chocolate eyes!

What do you like to eat? I like to eat “Taste of the Wild, Roasted Bison and Roasted Venison” puppy food. But my favorite is peanut butter and any kind of doggy snack!! Nom nom nom!!!

What kind of personality do you have?
I am the HAPPIEST girl you will ever meet and I LOVE EVERYONE!!! I have a lot of energy and love going for walks, running around the yard and playing fetch! I really like being around my humans and dogs. My foster mom calls me a social butterfly!

Describe your perfect day:
Getting up in the morning and going for a walk/run with my foster mom - she calls it fasted cardio, I call it Happy Time!! I like to play with the 2 kids that I live with – they give me treats! My favorite thing EVER is being petted and my belly rubbed! I also love love love to roll in the grass, play with my doggy friend and gnaw on my antler! And then go for another walk!

What is your favorite toy? Hmmmmm…..I would say my antler. Although, the Kong is a close second because it has peanut butter!

Do you know any tricks? I know ‘sit’ and getting better at ‘stay’.

What scares you? The trash cans kinda scare me when my foster mom brings them in from the street, but that’s it!

Have you been around children, do you like them? Oh Yes!!! The little people! I like them a lot! I live with 6 year old twins and I love to play with them! Sometimes I have too much fun and I rush up and jump which scares them. But, my foster mom is teaching me to act like a lady and not play too rough around them. Plus, they give me treats and pet me lots ‘n lots ‘n lots!!

Do you like cats? I’ve seen cats and I really want to check them out! I would probably be ok with a dog savvy cat.

How do you feel about other dogs? I love dogs!! I get all excited and I want to play with them when I see them!

If you would be anywhere in the world where would it be? I would be with my forever family going for walks and getting belly rubs!!

How is your health? I am a very healthy pup! I am vaccinated, spayed and microchipped. Before I came to live with my foster family I was a sausage with no muscle tone, now I have a waist and am super fit!

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion? I live with 4 humans - my foster mom, foster dad, two 6-yr olds and 1 resident female doggy (NBBR alum). My closest companion is my foster mom – we share a lot of one-on-one time together. P.s. My foster mom is really bossy and disciplines everyone, and I mean everyone!

Where do you hang out when you are home alone? I hang out in my crate. It’s not my favorite place, but after a little bit of whining I calm down and rest.

Where do you sleep? In my crate.

Do you like walking on a leash? I love my leash! When I see my leash, I know it’s time for a walk! And I am a good walker/runner.

Do you have any not so great habits that we should know about for instance do you bark or dig in the yard? Well ya…. I’m still a puppy! I dug a hole once, I chewed a couple of things I wasn’t supposed to, and I have been known to get really excited and jump on people. But my foster mom immediately corrects me when I do these things and I’m getting a lot better with my manners.
Are you house trained?

I am proud to say I am doing really well in that department! I have only had 1 accident and it happened outside of my crate. My foster mom takes me to go potty throughout the day, but I’m working on alerting my humans when I need to go outside.

Do you like water? You won’t find me getting near the pool or running into a lake, but I love sprinklers!

What do you love about your foster family? I love everything about my foster family! They are teaching me how to be a well mannered girl! Aaaannndddd they give me peanut butter!!!

What was life like before being brought into Nor Cal Bully Breed Rescue?
I lived in a crate 24/7 on an apartment balcony. I wasn’t allowed inside the apartment, I wasn’t walked, I wasn’t played with - I was just existing. Some really nice people saw that I was a really good puppy, even though I was living in horrible conditions, and reached out to NBBR for help. NBBR is helping me be the best girl ever!!

NorCal Bully Breed Rescue is a foster based rescue with foster homes spread all throughout the Sacramento area. We usually require our adopters to be within a 50 to 100 mile radius of us, depending on the dog, and depending on the home. This is because we need to do a yard check to guarantee that the potential adopter's yard is secure, and also have them be close enough should any behavioral issues arise, and the assistance of our trainer is needed. We are, however, willing to adopt out of our area, including the Bay Area, Tahoe, and even further. We've even adopted out of state on very special occasions. We try our best to match our dogs to the perfect homes, and match them based on their personalities, not their looks. Adoptions are not done on a first come, first serve basis, rather in the order of what homes are the right match for that particular dog. Our adoption fees are based on the dog and range from $200-$350. In the case of senior dogs (6+ years), fees will be waived to the right home. This includes spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, and deworming (if necessary).

Poppy's adoption donation is $350.

Interested in meeting Poppy or any of our available pooches? Complete and submit our adoption application on our website norcalbullybreedrescue.com and we will respond to you within 24 to 48 hours.
