My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

CHARITY is a 6 month-old intact female black lab. Charity weighs 23 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 6 and up.

DESCRIPTION (Charity is one of Angels’ Pups. See story below.) Charity is a complete doll. She loves squeaky toys, and romping with the "big dogs" in the house. She especially likes to be touching one of them when she sleeps. She's a sweet and happy girl, curious about everything. Good with other dogs, must go to a home with another dog. Knows sit and come. Will have a Training Addendum as she is a young dog and needs more training. Hasn't been on lead much but is learning.

Update: Charity is a sweet and happy puppy. She is all play, all the time, except for the moments when she's sleeping. She loves playing "chase-tackle-roughhouse-steal the toy-use the couch as a launching pad to tackle from above" with the youngest members of the pack. She's house and crate trained. She is learning quickly that foster mom's shoes are not toys (or rather foster mom is learning to put her shoes away because she has a puppy in the house...lol)...and she loooooves toys. If she's not playing with another dog or catching a quick nap, she's chewing on a toy. She doesn't quite understand the concept of fetch, and has only picked up a tennis ball once, but all other toys are fair play. She sleeps thru the night upside down (most days) and loves to snuggle with humans and dogs. She also has a BIG GIRL bark when she's scared of something. Noises and cars and other things outside can be a bit scary for her so she'll hang back by foster mom and tell them who's really boss. She's a sweet, sweet nugget.

Angel and her pups' story: One of the rescues we worked with contacted us about a bunch of puppies located in in Brunswick County, VA. The rescue told us the contact was the local Animal Control Officer. When I contacted him he told me a family had 8-10 puppies and wanted to give them up. We went down and met with the family was willing to give up the mother and 7 of the puppies, they were going to keep 2 as pets. We got the mom and the puppies then split them up so none of our vets would be overloaded. All the vets were unanimous in saying they had never seen so many ticks on a group of puppies. We went down to get the last two pups after the owner contacted us to give them up after she found the others had tick borne diseases she couldn't afford to get them vetted. All the puppies and their mother are very social, they were handled and played with by the kids in the family that had them. They will all need to go to homes with another dog as they are used to being with their siblings.

Adopters must meet these requirements:
Setting: Rural, Suburban
Dwelling: Single Family Home
Fencing: No fence requirement

This dog is from a rural area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. If dogs are overwhelmed by their environment, they can exhibit behaviors like excessive barking. To avoid this, for now we are limiting placement to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. As we learn more from the dog's time spent in foster, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment and send out an update.

This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP. Lab Rescue LRCP rescues and places dogs in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and northeast North Carolina (30 miles east of I-95 and north of the Pamlico Sound.) Adopters must travel to Maryland, or Virginia with their family - human and canine - to meet the dog they want to adopt.

Lab Rescue LRCP has between 40 - 80 dogs available for adoption from foster homes across Maryland and Virginia, and at monthly adoption events. The adoption event dates and locations are listed at www.lab-rescue.org.

If you are interested in adopting, please visit www.lab-rescue.org and complete an adoption application. After you submit an application, you will hear from an Adoption Coordinator who will guide you through the adoption process.

An adoption fee is charged to cover the cost of veterinary care and a home visit is required
