My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: born 2/19/2017
Breed: English Springer Spaniel
Special Needs
Puppy is a very sweet little girl with a non genetic birth defect: She has a cerebellar abnormality, likely cerebellar hypoplasia or cerebellar abiotrophies, which causes some mobility issues. She has been seen by multiple vets all with the same diagnosis. She struggles to control her body at times, primarily when afraid or caught off guard, She does have difficulty with stairs and requires a ramp but preferably a home with limited to no stairs. It appears to mainly be triggered by fear as when afraid, she freezes and struggles to move correctly with stiff legs, often laying on her side. Due to this, a home with a calmer dog, no stairs (or very limited), and no very young children is required. A video of her reaction can be seen on the rescue's facebook page. She is completely conscious when having an episode and the cure is to hug her until she recovers and off she goes again. Her gait is also stiffer than your average puppy. Her tail and butt never stop wiggling and she has no idea she's as special as she is though! Puppy loves life. She loves to play, loves to fetch, and adores other dogs and people. It is unknown on the long term implications of her issues so a family must be prepared to continue treatments if needed and special accommodations to make her life awesome, full, and lengthy as she isn't in any pain. She's just...different! But that makes her special.
Due to her needs, reward based training is required, not discipline based.
She needs a kind handed guardian with patience and a loving home who uses reward only training. Puppy loves to swim but does need a life vest and close proximity in the event she stiffens.
