My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Woof, woof! My name is Diesel and I am a 5-6 yr. old, 25 lb. beagle boy that will be making my way up to Penny Angels on Saturday, July 8. I will be at Petsmart that day from 11-3 pm and will be in search of my new forever home, so if you need a doggie friend, please keep me in mind! Here are some things that my foster mom wanted you to know about me:

“Diesel came to Penny Angels Beagle Rescue recently after his family's living situation changed and they were no longer able to keep him. They had taken good care of Diesel since they adopted him from a shelter in North Carolina two years ago, so the decision to let Diesel find a new home was heartbreaking for them. He has been in foster care in South Carolina for the last week. They truly wanted a good home for Diesel and they decided that Penny Angels was the best option for that.

“Diesel is a very handsome little boy. He has a short and stocky, mostly black body with beautiful brown ticking on his legs. He also has a short, stubby tail which just adds to his character and charm. Watching him walk will bring a smile to your face.

“This little guy is very friendly. He became my buddy instantly upon sharing a cheeseburger. He seemed a bit shy when I first introduced him to my pack, but within 10 minutes, he was running with them and wagging his tail. His previous family said that he wasn't fond of cats. He would bark at them but we are unsure beyond that how he feels about them. Note: Diesel was the only pet in his former home so I don't know that having another dog is necessary, although he didn't seem to mind having foster brothers and sisters.

“I do believe, however, that he would do best in a home without small children as he is a bit jumpy when there are loud noises or sudden movements. The buzzer on the dryer sent him into a barking frenzy. Fortunately, the dryer didn't seem to notice.

“Diesel was wearing a harness and no collar when he arrived. His mom said that he didn't like collars. I managed to get a collar on him but he did not want to walk when the leash was attached to the collar. He would walk, however, when the leash was attached to the harness. Silly boy!

“Here are some other things you might want to know about Diesel: It seems that Diesel is used to sleeping on the human bed. He put his legs up on the side of the bed and begged to be picked up and placed on the bed. He found a spot to sleep and stayed there all night. His little legs are so short that he couldn't jump on the bed, but he had no trouble jumping off. Note: if he is dreaming and you wake him up, he will jump and bark at you.

“Diesel also seems to be housebroken although he did mark a few things when he first arrived but he hasn't done that since. His former mom said that he was crate trained, and he did very well riding in the crate home. He didn't make a sound. However, he showed no desire to go into the open crate at my house. He much preferred running around loose. He was not destructive at all. When he wasn't napping or playing with the other dogs, he was usually just stretched out quietly somewhere. Diesel also didn't show much interest in toys. A good chewy bone, on the other hand, was quite interesting. Oh, and he loves soft treats, as opposed to crunchy ones. One last thing - when Diesel is sitting beside you and wants your attention, he will touch you with his paw until you pet him. Heartbreaker!”
