Externally motivated____________________________The Halifax Humane Society' Behavior Department has incorporated the ASPCA's Meet Your Match™ Adoption Program to help you find and adopt the companion animal that is best suited to your lifestyle. The program is fun, but it also has some serious science behind it! Developed by the ASPCA and Dr. Emily Weiss, Ph.D., the Meet Your Match™ program uses proven behavior assessments to predict how a shelter dog, puppy, or cat may behave in his or her new home for the first several weeks. The assessments are used with innovative adopter surveys that help match adopters with appropriate animals. This lays the foundation for a successful placement of a shelter animal in their new forever-home! GREEN dogs are higher energy dogs who will be most successful in new homes committed to keeping them physically and mentally engaged. ORANGE dogs are a good fit with middle-of-the-road adopters who will give their dog regular activity and interaction, but also enjoy having a dog with an "off-switch."PURPLE dogs are lower energy dogs with a laid back attitude who want to enjoy an easygoing lifestyle.

About Halifax Humane Society, Inc.

About Our Shelter...

Halifax Humane Society, the 2012 National CLASSY Award winner for Animal Advocacy & Services, is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization servicing the Greater Daytona Beach area in Volusia County, Florida since 1937. It exists to protect animals from cruel, neglectful, and exploitative treatment. Halifax Humane Society is an open-door animal shelter that offers services to any animal in need.

As one of the largest humane societies in Florida, Halifax Humane Society provides a full array of humane programs that allow it to provide service to nearly 25,000 animals each year. Through generous donations of time and funds, the Halifax Humane Society provides shelter for lost and abandoned animals, delivers humane education to its citizens, creates a pet-friendly environment in its local community, and prevents overpopulation of animals by offering affordable spay/neuter opportunities.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Visit our pets at our primary shelter at 2364 LPGA Boulevard in Daytona Beach (corner of I-95 and LPGA). Also look for our new mobile adoption vehicle that will be bringing pets to large community events all over North and Central Florida.

Our Adoption Process...

Individuals or families interested in adopting an animal must complete a brief Meet Your Match assessment before entering the adoption areas. Interested adopters are strongly encouraged to spend time outside the kennel with their pet before adopting. After the office staff screens the application, a surgery date is scheduled for the animal to be spayed or neutered before it will be placed in its new home. If the animal has already been altered, it can usually go home the same day! Otherwise, a date and time is established for the adopters to pick-up their new family member. If a placement is felt to not be in the best interest of the animal, the adoption will be denied.
