My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It got scarily close to Rigby's euthanasia time in a dismal Texas shelter. It was definitely through no fault of his own..it's all a matter of space. He came in at a very crowded time (but then again..all times are very crowded) and was therefore given a very short window in which to be rescued. After a scramble by our very compassionate Texas rescuer (she has a soft spot for a really cute fuzzy guy with a great temperament!), Rigby was pulled out of the shelter at the last second possible. His rescuer and shelter workers haven't stopped raving about this adorable and engaging guy ever since.

Rigby, at 18 months old and 35 lbs is the perfect size to take along just about anywhere. He is such a perfect candidate to find his forever home in Colorado - he's a natural-born hiker with the energy and enthusiasm to accompany his favorite person on any path. We envision Rigby with a very active family that can provide space for this very smart herding dog...maybe a ranch or an involved guardian who wants a loyal companion to run the trails with or have fun on rides or hikes in the open spaces.

Rigby would be a very family-oriented pup if given the chance...adventures, hiking vacations or just hanging out at home after some fun exercise would speak to the nature of this guy. A fun time would be exploring dog-friendly spots or socializing with playful canines and their dog-loving families. At the end of the day...there would be nothing better for Rigby than to snuggle down with his family of humans and canines..he is unknown with cats.

Rigby can be counted on to be a truly positive addition to any home that will provide training, exercise and mental stimulation for this very smart dog. He is a very loyal guy whose joy at being part of a committed family would know no bounds. Rigby would shine in positive reinforcement group obedience classes since his desire to please is so strong...and it would create that special bond that exists between a trained, respectful dog and his people (Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved trainers in your area). After passing his temperament tests and vetting with flying colors, Rigby is with his foster in Denver being reminded of some basic house skills. His rescuer has described him as a love bug that deserves the gift of training to make make him the best dog he's capable of being....can we possibly say more?

Rigby is in need of a sudsy bath and a great brushing…. he will emerge with an amazing coat that will highlight the gorgeous merle and markings that speak of his breed. Rigby will require a periodic bath and great nutrition to keep his lovely coat healthy and cottony-soft.

Rigby is up to date on his vetting, but has yet to be neutered. We're hoping that he will be fixed when he arrives from Texas, however most often a dog's euthanasia date arrives before their neuter date. If this is the case, Farfel's will cover all costs for Rigby to be neutered and micro chipped at our vet in Denver to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation.

Rigby is being fostered in the Denver area. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
