My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hopalong Cassidy, Born 2014, M, Red Abyssinian

Watch me love and play! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m44VLaEf7Q)

Cassidy, lovingly named after Hopalong Cassidy, is a handsome athletic and muscular tripod red Abyssinian. When he was a baby, at birth, he lost his back leg from the knee down. He was raised by two children 10 and 12 in their bedroom and would be great with kids. The loss of his leg has not slowed this lover boy down at all. He is only 3 years old and acts like a kitten when he plays. He loves to play with all toys and you would never know he is a tripod! He will greet you at the door, nuzzle and cuddle you, bring you toys to play with him, then gently nuzzle and head butt you again so you don’t forget to love him.

All the while he is purring loudly and loving all the attention. And then in some cases he is so exceptionally content and relaxed….he turns into a “Happy Drooler”. Not to worry…a drooling cat is a happy cat. It’s actually a compliment to you, really. Cassidy loves the attention and affection so much that he’s relaxed enough to let it all hang loose. Drip. Drip. Purr. Headbutt Bonk. Rinse and repeat. He so loves attention and humans!

He’s a very laid-back, easy-going cat.! He really has a mindset of live and let live. I have yet to hear him growl at any of our resident cats and after a week of getting settled in, he was out in the main areas of the house. There were a few rumblings from the resident cats when they sniffed noses, but it was all just for show. Cassidy just wandered off when that happened and everything was fine. He’s good with other cats, but is much more interested in people and helping you -- than in other cats.

He is on a grain-free diet and we highly recommend he remain on it. There are plenty of varieties on the market. If you are so inclined, a raw diet would also be good. Of course, he does love Chicken Temptations – comes running at the sound of the bag opening. We have to let him cheat once in a while!

If you are looking for a lover and personal assistant this is the perfect boy for you. He is very smart and will talk to you if he wants something. He would do well with gentle children and/or with other laid back cats. Cassidy is a very special heart-warming cat, looking for that very special forever home he can call his own. Could you be the one for him? We know you will fall in love the moment you meet this phenomenal boy.

Cassidy is fully vetted, is up-to date on vaccines, except for Rabies, neutered, FIV/FLEV Negative and is litter box perfect. He’s in excellent shape and will be ready to go home the weekend of July 14th. He has a friend here, Delilah a petite little blue Abyssinian if you would like to consider two amazing Abyssinian cats (she will be posted soon)!

NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interest!

About the Abyssinian Breed
Of all the cat breeds, the Abyssinian is perhaps the one who lives life to the fullest. He climbs higher, jumps farther, plays harder and loves stronger. Nothing escapes the notice of this highly intelligent and inquisitive cat, a quality that makes life with him endlessly entertaining. Staying a step ahead of an Aby, or even just keeping pace with him, sometimes requires the fancy footwork of a Fred Astaire, the brainpower of an Einstein and a healthy sense of humor! You never know what he’ll get into next, although you can assume that if you have something or are doing something, your Aby will want to be right there with you helping every step of the way.

The Aby loves to play, so plan on making or purchasing a variety of toys to keep him occupied. Teach him to retrieve if you dare. Cause once you start, he will likely want to do it a lot! He learns tricks quickly and many Abys enjoy running a feline agility course. This is a playful, persistent, loving cat who adores being the center of attention. Abys are typically adaptable throughout their lives and fit well into almost any home where they are truly loved and given plenty of attention.
