BARRY***CONTACT KAT katkylabrescue@gmail.com BARRY'S STORY***BARRY LOST HIS BEST FRIEND!**BARRY***LOVING-LOYAL--A TREASURE!!! WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM A WOMAN WHO KNOW WE DID RESCUE. SHE TOLD US THAT A VERY CLOSE FRIEND OF HERS HAD BEEN ILL FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND HAD RECENTLY PASSED AWAY. HER FRIEND HAD A BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL, 6 YR. OLD, 50 LB., AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD NAMED BARRY WHO WAS EVERYTHING TO HIM. SHE WAS CLOSE TO THE FAMILY AND LEARNED WHEN SHE WAS TALKING TO THEM THAT THEY HAD NO PLANS TO TAKE CARE OF BARRY AND HAD TAKEN HIM TO A HIGH KILL SHELTER!!! THE WOMAN WAS BEYOND UPSET AS SHE KNEW HOW MUCH HER FRIEND ADORED BARRY. SHE CALLED US LETTING US KNOW THIS HEARTBREAKING NEWS. SHE TOLD US THAT BARRY AND HER FRIEND WERE INSEPARABLE, THEY DID EVERYTHING TOGETHER, BARRY HAD BEEN A PART OF HIS OWNER'S LIFE SINCE HE WAS A TINY 6 WEEK OLD PUPPY, THEY WERE BEST FRIENDS!!. SHE CALLED US PLEADING FOR OUR HELP,THE MINUTE WE HEARD THIS TRAGIC STORY WE CALLED THE SHELTER AND YES BARRY WAS THERE, THIS SITUATION WAS URGENT, FOR BARRY NOT BEING A BOUNCY, WIGGLY PUPPY OR A 1 YR. OLD YOUNG ADULT THERE WAS VERY LITTLE CHANCE OF BARRY EVER LEAVING THAT SHELTER, HIS HEARTLESS FAMILY KNEW THIS AND JUST DIDN'T CARE. THEY JUST DIDN'T WANT TO BE BOTHERED CARING FOR THIS SWEET DESERVING FELLOW, THEY THREW HIM AWAY!!!. "HE IS THE MOST GENTLE AND LOVING FELLOW, SO WELL BEHAVED WITH BEAUTIFUL MANNERS". THE WOMAN WAS PLEADING FOR OUR HELP AS SHE KNEW HOW MUCH HER FRIEND ADORED BARRY AND WAS HORRIFIED THAT HIS FAMILY TOOK HIM TO A SHELTER. WE PROMISED THE WOMAN HIS "GUARDIAN ANGEL" THAT WE WOULD TAKE BARRY INTO OUR RESCUE AND FIND BARRY A WONDERFUL HOME WITH A FAMILY WHO WOULD LOVE HIM FOREVER, THIS IS A PROMISE WE INTENT TO KEEP. WHEN WE WENT TO THE SHELTER AND FIRST MET BARRY WE REACHED DOWN, GAVE HIM A PAT, AND SPOKE SOFTLY TO HIM, HE LIFTED HIS BEAUTIFUL HEAD, LAID IT IN OUR HANDS AS IF HE WAS SAYING "THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME". FATE GAVE US BARRY THAT DAY, A TRUE TREASURE. IT IS OFTEN SAID THAT THE SOUL CAN BEEN SEEN IN THE FACE AND EYES AND THIS IS SO TRUE WITH BARRY. HIS GORGEOUS, GENTLE FACE DOES TELL A STORY, THE STORY OF A TRUE COMPANION PUP WHO HAD DEVOTED HIS LIFE TO HIS OWNER, IN SPITE OF THE CHANGE IN BARRY'S LIFE HIS FACE HOWEVER TRULY DOES SEEM TO SAY "I LOVE YOU", THE BEAUTY OF THE RESCUE. BARRY IS AS LOVING AND GENTLE A GUY AS YOU WILL EVER MEET BUT THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING ABOUT IS HIS HEART AND SPIRIT. HE IS A PUP WHO LOVES DEEPLY AND FOREVER. ALTHOUGH WHAT HAPPENED TO BARRY WAS NOT HIS FAULT AND DESPITE THE TRAGIC SITUATION HE WAS IN A SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE ENDED HIS LIFE, BARRY HOLDS NO GRUDGE AND IS HAPPY AND GRATEFUL FOR EVERYDAY. BARRY NEVER MEETS A STRANGER HE WILL GREET YOU WITH HIS TAIL WAGGING, EYES SPARKLING, GIVING YOU A LOOK THAT SEEMS TO SAY "HI I'M BARRY, NICE TO MEET YOU-WANNA PLAY?". HE IS ALSO A VERY SOCIAL GUY AND DELIGHTS IN THE COMPANY OF OTHER DOGS. BARRY IS A PUP THAT WILL PLAY HOWEVER HE ALSO KNOWS WHEN IT IS TIME TO BE CALM AND WILL SETTLE DOWN CONTENT JUST BEING WITH THOSE HE LOVES, BEAUTIFUL MANNERS!!. YOU CAN TELL WHEN YOU MEET BARRY THAT HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PART OF A FAMILY. WHATEVER YOUR DAY CALLS FOR IS JUST FINE WITH BARRY, JUST AS LONG AS HE IS WITH YOU. HE WOULD BE A GREAT WALKING OR JOGGING BUDDY AS HE ADORES THE OUTDOORS. BARRY WILL "PRANCE" ALONG, HEAD HELD HIGH, TAIL WAGGING, EYES SPARKLING. BARRY HAS A SMOOTH, FLOWING, GRACEFUL GAIT AND WHEN HE PICKS UP THE PACE IT'S AS IF HE IS FLOATING ON AIR HIS COAT ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE FEATHERS BLOWING IN THE BREEZE WHEN BARRY MOVES, BARRY IN MOTION IS BEAUTIFUL TO WATCH. IF YOUR DAY CALLED FOR A TRIP AROUND TOWN TO RUN A FEW ERRANDS BARRY WOULD BE THRILLED TO TAG ALONG. JUST OPEN THE CAR DOOR AND IN BARRY WILL HOP, HE WILL FIND "HIS" SPOT, TURN HIS ADORABLE HEAD TO ONE SIDE AND GIVE YOU HIS "O.K. I'M READY" LOOK. HE WOULDN'T KNOW EXACTLY WHERE HE WAS GOING, WOULDN'T MATTER TO HIM, IF BARRY IS WITH YOU THIS COMPANION PUP IS HAPPY!!! IF YOUR WEEKEND CALLED FOR A GET-A-WAY TO YOUR CABIN IN THE MOUNTAINS BOY IS BARRY READY, AS WE SAID HE LOVES THE OUTDOOR, HE WOULD SPEND THE DAY EXPLORING NEW TRAILS, JUST ENJOYING THE DAY, ENJOYING LIFE. THERE IS ANOTHER PART TO BARRY'S PACKAGE AND IT IS APPARENT AFTER SPENDING ANY TIME WITH HIM AT ALL--TRUE TO THE AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD BREED BARRY IS ONE SMART GUY!!! HE IS EXTREMELY ALERT, ALWAYS AWEAR OF HIS SURROUNDINGS, A PUP WHO PICKS UP IMMEDIATELY WHAT YOU WANT HIM TO LEARN. HE IS A PUP WHO'S GREATEST JOY IS PLEASING HIS FAMILY AND THIS MAKES TRAINING A BREEZE. THE POTENTIAL FOR BARRY IS HUGE OR MAYBE HE LEARNED ALL THIS IN HIS OTHER LIFE??? AT THE END OF THE DAY WHEN YOU COME INSIDE READY TO SETTLE IN FOR THE EVENING, BARRY HAS THE WISDOM TO APPRECIATE THE SIMPLER THINGS IN LIFE. HE WILL CURL UP AT YOUR FEET, CONTENT JUST TO BE WITH YOU. HOWEVER YOU BETTER LEAVE ONE HAND FREE AS BARRY WILL LAY HIS "LOVE ME" HEAD IN YOUR LAP AND NO ONE LOVES A PAT OR A RUB MORE THEN BARRY. BARRY KNOWS IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THEN THIS. HE IS RESPECTFUL OF HIS SURROUNDINGS, A PUP WHO IS THERE FOR YOU 100%, A CONTENTED, BEAUTIFUL, ADULT WHO LOVES UNCONDITIONALLY AND FOREVER. EVERYDAY SPENT WITH BARRY IS A GIFT. WE DID MENTION BEAUTIFUL AND THIS PUP TRULY IS. HIS COAT IS SO SOFT IT FEELS LIKE VELVET, THE COMBINATION OF TWO GORGEOUS COLORS, SPARKLING GLACIER WHITE AND WARM RICH COPPER, THIS COMBINATION IN THE AUSSIE BREED IS REFERRED TO AS "RED/WHITE". THIS PUP'S COAT IS BREATHTAKING. NEXT "THAT FACE", BARRY HAS THE MOST GORGEOUS, DARK CHESTNUT COLORED EYES WITH A LOOK THAT TRULY SEEMS TO BE SAYING "LOVE ME", IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO!!! WE KNOW THAT THE FAMILY WHO OPENS THEIR HEART AND MAKES THIS DESERVING FELLOW PART OF THEIR LIFE WILL RECEIVE A VERY SPECIAL GIFT, A PUP WHO'S FIRST DAY WITH YOU YOU WOULD THINK HE HAD ALWAYS BEEN A PART OF YOUR LIFE. About KLR NORTH EAST

About Our Rescue Group...

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has". --Margaret Mead

Come Meet Our Pets...

Most of the puppies and dogs are vetted, fostered and lovingly cared for in the home state in which they were rescued.

Our Adoption Process...

Application, followed by an interview either by phone or home visit.

BEFORE YOU APPLY:
All known information about an individual dog is provided in it's listing. We do our best to provide accurate information, but adopters must understand that each home is different and the dog may behave differently in a new home. Dogs are creatures of their environment and you help make the dog what it will be.

Homes considering adopting a puppy must be prepared for:
1.) Flexible schedules for potty training. Puppies can only "hold it" for one hour per month of age (ex. a 4 month old puppy can only go 4 hours without a potty break).
2.) Crate training until the puppy is at least one year old, to prevent chewing on inappropriate things when you can't supervise.
3.) Socialization: The more positive and varying experiences as a puppy the better, both in and out of your home.
4.) Puppy behavior and life stages are equivalent to a human toddler. It takes at least a full year to have a calmer, well adjusted dog. Patience is required and when your dog's behavior is a positive experience for you and those around you, your patience will be rewarded tenfold, for years to come.
Please do not consider adopting a puppy if you have not thoroughly thought through the pros and cons of having one. So many people end up returning them after 3-5 months because they didn't realize the amount of work involved in raising a puppy.
Patience, appropriate toys, socialization, and obedience training are all musts. All are time consuming, and can be expensive.

All Dogs Require:Supervision with children and obedience training.
Adopters that want to have good dogs must be prepared to put the time and effort into training a dog. Any dog requires work and effort, but a well t rained, well socialized dog is more than worth the effort put in to get them there.
