Like many a Calgarian, Zoe is a Manitoba expat. Her history is a bit hazy, but she spent a considerable amount of time in a shelter before making the move west in search of greener pastures and squirrelier squirrels.

She LOVES to be with her people and is increasingly confident on her own. She is comfortable lounging in the back yard for a good amount of time without needing to be entertained. She seems constantly impressed and even captivated by movement in the world around her. From airplanes and geese overhead to scampering squirrels and blowing dust under foot, she cannot help herself but to try to take it all in. She has a curious nose that wants to sniff anything that may have an odour that needs deciphering.

The challenge of all this curiosity is that you're going to have to be proactive to keep her attention when out for walks. Zoe is a chronic leash puller, though has made some improvements since becoming (mostly) accustomed to wearing a head halter, which is helping to teach her more acceptable walking manners.

In just a few short weeks, she has learned an increasingly reliable "sit." She's also now keen to head quickly to her crate when she hears that it's bedtime and is very enthusiastic when she hears the word "walk." Her "leave it" is improving, though it goes out the window when the thing she should leave is a piece of pizza hitting the ground, and then you've never seen a dog grab and dart more quickly.

While unerringly house trained, Zoe does have issues that are going to need attention from her patient and supportive forever people. She is dog reactive on sight and can be unpredictable with other dogs. Her reactivity is likely to need ongoing support, preferably with the assistance of a professional trainer. She is not a candidate for a home that already has another dog. Her behaviour towards cats is mixed.

Zoe is not a good choice for a home with young children. While she is often nervous meeting strangers when walking in public, she has never shown aggression to a person. However, she has expressed what may be herding behaviours, nipping at the back of the leg of her foster on a couple of occasions. She's also not especially good with aiming her mouth when playing and has accidentally clipped fingers with her teeth a few times. Her play is likely best confined to teens and adults who can understand the risk while she learns how to manage her mouth.

Her enthusiasm for the arrival of her person after their day at work is unrivaled, meeting you at the door with a slobbery toy in mouth, ready to play. Her love for being with you, or even just near you, is clear. She's a happy and loving dog brimming with interest in the world around her. And those funny little legs make it awfully easy to elicit an "aww" from those you'll meet in the street.

Zoe also wants you to know that tug-of-war is just about her favourite thing in the whole world.
