Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Gaya is a beautiful 3 year old purebred black lab. She came to us from a shelter in early June very pregnant and due to give birth any day. Since then, Gaya gave birth to 6 precious babies who have all found their forever homes. She was then spayed and caught up with all her vaccines. Gaya has been in a foster home where she has been learning the ropes of indoor-dog life. She is super sweet, housebroken, and crate trained. Gaya gets along well with other dogs and we think she would do best in a home with another dog to keep her company. However, she can sometimes be a little bossy, so a home that already has a dominant female might not be the best fit for her. She lives with four male dogs in her foster home and has done very well with them. While we have not had the chance to expose her to cats, Gaya does have a higher prey drive and will hunt for wildlife/creatures in the yard, so she would likely do best in a home without cats.
We are unsure of how Gaya ended up at the shelter, so we can only guess about her past and what she has been through. It is likely she did not receive much socialization as a younger dog. She has some quirks that her foster mom has been working on, and she has already shown much improvement. We learned early on that Gaya is a digger, as she attempted to dig out of her foster family's yard once. Because of this, Gaya should not be left outside unsupervised for long periods of time. When Gaya first came to us, we learned that she did wonderfully on a leash, until she saw a car go by. She would pull and attempt to chase the car, which was a dangerous habit we knew we had to break. Gaya's foster mom has been working with her, and although they have made great progress, she still needs to continue with some training and would do best with a stronger handler. Gaya isn't a huge fan of landscapers or the "gators" they often ride around in, and she will bark at them. She is also not a fan of thunder and will bark "at it" when she hears it.
While these things certainly aren't ideal, we know that with proper training and structure, Gaya can overcome them. All in all, she is a great dog that would do best in a home with an experienced dog owner who can continue her training. She needs a strong handler who can be firm with her and correct her when needed, but who will not be too forceful.
