Where I came from...
When my owners could no longer take care of me, I was brought to the SVAS for a second chance at finding my forever home.

A little bit about me...
I am an extremely shy cat, so multiple visits to get me to feel comfortable with you will be necessary to get an initial bond with me.
I am a very independent cat. I prefer to do things my own way, on my own time, & that is something that is very important to me.
I have a very calm & mellow personality. My playfulness will come out when I play with toys, but otherwise I like to lounge around. A great ice breaker for me (once I get to know you a little) is any type of toy wand. I respond very well to chasing those kinds of toys & they can help me feel more comfortable with you.
I enjoy smaller & confined spaces to help me feel more comfortable. Starting me out in a large cat enclosure, a small bedroom, or small bathroom would make me feel safest.

My ideal home would include...
Someone who understands that I am incredibly shy. I need my new home to understand that it will probably take me a long time to adjust to my new environment. Because I am unsure how long it will take for my adjustment, I need someone who truly understands that & will work with me through it.
A quiet home is a necessity to me. Children & their fast movements/loud noises make me nervous, so a slower paced, more mature home would be appropriate for me.
Because I do not have the highest confidence level in myself, I need someone that has experience working with cats that have a lower self-esteem. I need to learn confidence in myself so that I may become more confident in my surroundings.
I am not a first time cat & need someone experienced with shy cats.

About Sun Valley Animal Shelter

About Our Shelter...

Sun Valley Animal Shelter, Inc., is an Arizona nonprofit corporation with 501(c)3 status which operates a No-Kill shelter in Glendale, Arizona, generally serving the western portion of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The organization was founded in 1991 by a group of Sun City area residents as a foster-based program to provide adoption opportunities for homeless and abandoned dogs and cats. The current facility was built in 1995 and can house 100+ dogs and 100+ cats. The organization receives no government funding and is supported by income from our thrift store profits, adoption fees, membership dues, donations and bequests. We recently received a grant to assist in the construction of a new medical/surgical center at the facility.

The animals taken into our care are housed in a clean, secure environment and are spayed/neutered, microchipped, given all necessary shots and a physical exam. Dedicated volunteers are invaluable in assisting with the daily care and nurturing of our dogs and cats prior to finding a loving home. We are proud to note that in the last several years we have increased adoptions from approximately 300 animals per year to over 1000 animals per year.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Sun Valley Animal Shelter is located at 7150 N. 110th Avenue in the City of Glendale, AZ 85307. Our business hours are Tuesdays thru Sundays from 11:00am till 4:00pm. We do participate in a local Petsmart on the weekends for our dogs to be viewed. We also participate in various events throughout the Greater Phoenix area that those who allow dogs to be shown we bring for viewing. If not, we are always available at an event to showcase those adoptable pets that are available.

Our Adoption Process...

Please be advised we only adopt to AZ residents. We make a commitment to all of our animals. So while we appreciate your interest, we ask that you be a local resident to adopt. We do not always know the full background of each animal and sometimes personalities are not fully shown until a few days in the home. If for whatever reason you cannot keep the animal, we appreciate the animal being returned to our facility. It is costly and time consuming to return an animal from out of state. Please check your local animal shelter to find a forever friend near your area.
We do have adoption fees that are reflective to our adoptable cats and dogs. They will slightly vary depending on the cat or dog. However most of the adoptable pets have the same adoptable fee. We ask that any prospective adopter to come to our location and complete an adoption application. This will be reviewed by a qualified adoption counselor who will sit and visit to interview the adopter on what they are looking for to place the adoptable pet in a forever home. Once approved for adoption, there is paperwork to complete and the adoptable cat or dog will be able to go home that day
