My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duke is a 1 year-old neutered male black lab. Duke weights 61 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.

Duke is from a rural area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. For now
we are limiting placement to a standalone, single family home in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. As we learn more about the dog's time spent in foster care, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment.

NO FIRST TIME ADOPTERS, PLEASE.'

Aug 11, 2017: Duke moved to a temporary foster home last night while his foster is on vacation. Within minutes he and the resident lab were fast friends. He is a playful, silly puppy. He has a good nose and can sniff out even the smallest plastic bag-type items! He loves antlers and bones, belly rubs, treats, and bitey-face and chase games with the dog. This boy is 100% sweet! Duke will need some training, as all puppies do

Jul 29, 2017: Duke is a sweet guy and is settling in nicely at his foster home. He's working on putting on a few pounds, loves to play, nap and splash in the water. He needs exercise and play like any young dog, but is such a sweet guy, you will fall in love! Plus he had a rocking head tilt!

July 22, 2017: He's very sweet, loving, and cuddly. He loves pets, belly rubs, and attention. He's house and crate trained. He's a bit thin and seems really hungry. He eats his food as soon as it is put down, quickly.
We are giving him a lot of exercise by walking and running around in the backyard. He does jump up when greeting people and we are working on correcting that behavior. He is a bit of a counter surfer. There was a banana taunting him from the fruit bowl so he jumped up and got a bite of it (peel and all). We have moved the fruit bowl to the top of the fridge as its punishment for teasing him.
He's still very much a puppy but also a sweetie.

Jun 16, 2017: Duke is a typical young lab who can get mouthy when excited. He needs an adopter experienced with young sporting dogs who will be firm, yet patient, with him and give training a high priority. He is one handsome dog. He will have a training addendum because he is an exuberant boy- delightful, but exuberant. Young energetic dogs must have training and adequate exercise; Duke settles right down after he has had adequate interactive exercise. Several walks a day will not be sufficient for a young lab. Young dogs are going to push the limit until boundaries are set; training also provides focus and patience.

Duke is a character and it's fun to watch him blossom. Once he has enough exercise, he pretty much settles down, but he also needs structure and to learn some boundaries. He loves to run zoomies when he is let out and enjoys playing with the hose, so he may prove to be a fan of swimming.

Mar 2, 2017: Duke is delightful, full of personality, he loves to be with you and to get petted. He likes to play with kids and is active but not hyper. He is just learning to retrieve, chases the ball and brings it back once in a while. He is good with his toys and has stuffed animal that have survived for months which is unusual for a pup his age. Duke would like to have a family that will give him love, attention and training. He needs a fence either physical or u/g.

Kids 6 and up lived with sisters twin 6 year old boys and 9 years old daughter during the day, but since he is bigger now and much more energetic, we have increased his age approval to kids 10 and up. Good with other dogs was at owners sister house with her 3 dogs. No cat history. Knows sit, come and sometimes down. Will have a training addendum. Pulls on lead a little when walking better with an Easy Walk Harness. Crate and house trained. He was crated when owner was gone so he didn’t get into trouble.
