Hi, my name is Izzy.  I think it might be short for Isabel.  My first owners had a larger dog that was mean to me so they gave me to BTRFL.  At first, I lived with a foster family that had a bunch of other dogs and I got along well with them.  I then went to stay with my current foster Mom a little while ago.  She says that I'm really cute (I make piggy noises) and a good girl.  There aren't any other pets in my house, but sometimes I stay with Mommy's friend who has three Boston Terriers.  We have great fun together.

Sometimes I like to do my own thing and sometimes I like to cuddle and have my ears rubbed.  If you give me a treat, I give you a “High 5” with each paw!  I love going for walks with my foster Mom.  Sometimes I get into a little trouble though because I can be protective of her and bark at other dogs that are walking. If you are firm with me, I'll quiet back down.  While I would like to have a yard to play in, it is not a deal breaker.  I also really like playing with kids.

My foster Mom lets me sleep in bed with her, but I'm also happy sleeping on my own bed. I have a favorite toy.  It's a rabbit called "Flop Flop" that I like to gently chew on.  While my time in foster care has been great, I'm really excited about finding a forever home for Flop Flop and myself.  Are you the right one for us?

Izzy Shannon is 8 years old and weighs 25 pounds.

Some of the dogs listed may not be cleared for adoption yet and many may be adopted prior to when you are approved and are next in line to work with the Adoption Coordinator.  Please do not despair.  We have new dogs coming into our Rescue all the time regardless of whether you see them posted here or not.  If you are willing to be patient or if you are willing to adopt one of our older dogs, we suggest that you apply as soon as possible.  The Adoption Coordinator works with the older applications first to find good matches with the dogs we have available at that time.  Waiting to apply until you see a dog posted that you like usually ends with that dog being adopted by someone who submitted an application before you.

If you are interested in adopting, please visit our website to learn about our adoption process and to fill out an application. http://bostonrescueflorida.org/available-for-adoption/adoption-process/

Because we have Boston Terriers of all ages, we have a sliding scale for adoption fees generally ranging from $300 to $600 based on the age and health of the dog.

In general the fees are:

$600 - 9 wks to 23 months

$550 - 2 yrs to 3 yrs

$475 - 4 yrs to 5 yrs

$400 - 6 yrs to 7 yrs

$300 - 8 yrs to 9 yrs

For dogs 10 yrs old and older, we just request a donation.

Our fees cover vetting costs, shelter fees, fuel for transport while in the rescue, copying and printing of contracts and paperwork, our website presence, food, boarding, behavioral training and additional medical care. While the dog you adopt may not require all of these things, many other dogs in our system do. By adopting from Boston Terrier Rescue of Florida, you are not saving just one life, you are helping to save others as well.

About Boston Terrier Rescue of Florida, Inc.

About Our Rescue Group...

Boston Terrier Rescue of Florida, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to saving Boston Terriers who are lost, abandoned or surrendered in Florida and the Southeast United States, regardless of age, health or adoptability. Our goal is to nourish each Boston Terrier back to emotional and physical health, providing necessary medical care along with an environment that fosters trust and alleviates fear.

As a rescue organization, we rely on private foster homes spread throughout Florida, Georgia and Tennessee as temporary homes for the dogs we bring into the rescue. We believe this model provides the right environment to get our Bostons ready for their forever homes by receiving the necessary care and training while being part of a loving foster family.

Our foster homes allow our Bostons to play outside and learn how to socialize with humans and other pets. Based on this model, we do not have a permanent facility where prospective adopters/fosters can visit to see our rescues. Instead, our prospective adopters or fosters can view our adoptable Bostons online and fill-out an application. Once approved, our volunteers will work with each applicant to find the best match for their homes.

Our Adoption Process...

Adopting a dog is a serious commitment. We strongly encourage anyone thinking about adding a new member to their family to spend some time doing research to be ready for this commitment. We are also happy to work with you to figure out what kind of dog is best for you. If you want to have a dog in your home but aren’t sure you can make the 10-20 year commitment, consider participating in our foster program and other volunteer opportunities.

The application process consist of several steps:

1. Submit Adoption Application. Please answer the application questionnaire as honestly and completely as possible. There is a $20.00 non-waivable and non-refundable application fee to ensure applicants are committed to the adoption process. This fee will not count towards the adoption fee. Our rescue reserves the right to reject any application.
2. Application Review. One our volunteers will review your application and check your personal and veterinary references. If you are renting, we will also need to contact your landlord to ensure your new family member will be approved.
3. Phone Interview. A volunteer will contact you to go over your application.
4. Home Visit. We will then set up a home visit to verify your home is a safe place for a Boston. The home visit is also a time where one of our volunteers can answer any questions that you may have and discuss safety precautions with you.
5. Adoption Agreement. Once you are approved, we will send you an adoption agreement with important terms and conditions that you will need to follow.
6. Finding the Right Match. Finally, we will work with you to find the right Boston for your home.
