Our mission is: “to advance the humane treatment of animals in Yates County, New York. This is accomplished through actions which promote the adoption of stray or unwanted animals, which reduce cruelty to dogs and cats, and which reduce the over breeding of domestic animals. The Humane Society of Yates County depends on volunteers and private financial assistance from the residents of Yates County to carry out its programs”.
Every day our compassionate staff and volunteers provide food, shelter, medical care and comfort to the many animals that are abandoned or relinquished by their owners. We do not euthanize animals for space. The Humane Society of Yates County does not receive funds from the county. Public donations are currently our most important source of income.
In addition to our shelter, we also serve as the County's "dog pound". There we take care of all dogs brought in by the County's Animal Control Officer. We feed them, give them shelter and make every effort to see that they also find new homes.

Our Adoption Process...
To adopt a dog or cat from us an adoption contract must be completed at the time of adoption. We take great pride in talking with every person to make sure that the animal they choose is the right fit for both them and the animal. Often we will allow a trial fostering period. This benefits both the "new" owner as well as the animal. The animal gets a chance to be out of the shelter for a little while and the owner gets a chance to see how this animal fits in their home. Our success rate with this program has been very, very good!
