Per'aps ye remember a group o'cats that were found in Austin back in March. In honor of Ireland's patron saint, a fellow called Patrick - per'aps ye've ‘eard of ‘him - we all got Irish names. I am called Cavan, after a town and county in the north part of Ireland. I was pregnant and quite terrified! Another lass, Clare, and her babies and I all went to a foster home. My kittens were born there, and now I've come back to the shelter so the public can meet me. Dear me! I am still very nervous, but I have made some progress. I let staff people handle me. (I even got a vaccination without raising a fuss.) But I have a way to go before I will feel comfortable, so I hope there is someone who is a kind, patient, cat-savvy person who will give me the time I need to get used to my new home and become more social. I'm a beautiful 1-year--old dilute tortie with medium-length fur. Are you somebody who can help me find my inner beauty? Imagine the paw-siblilities! You'll be getting a special girl when you adopt Cavan.

About Paws and Claws Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.

We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.

Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds. We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.

Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.

We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.

We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.

Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.

Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.

In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.

Our Adoption Process...

Paws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal.

All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.

After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.
