Requirements To Adopt

All animals are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. You must be 18 or older or have your parents present at the time of adoption. To help us make your adoption experience not only pleasant, but quicker and easier please provide us with the following:

* Legal ID with your current address
* Verification of home ownership; for example a tax bill
* A letter of permission from your landlord, along with a contact phone number.
* Veterinary records or a letter of recommendation from your veterinarian

Please understand we cannot place a hold on any adoptable animal without the above documentation.

You will be asked to complete and adoption application and will need some form of I.D. A drivers license is preferable. If your drivers license does not reflect your current address, then you will need to bring some kind of bill/statement which has your current address on it. If all is in order, then the adoption paperwork will be completed and payment will be needed at this time. If your new pet is not currently altered then she or he will then be scheduled for spaying/neutering. You should be able to pick up your pet within several days. If there will be a delay, you will receive a phone call from a staff member or be made aware at the time of adoption.

Helpful Hints:

When choosing a dog in a household where there is an existing dog, you will be asked to bring them in for a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in adopting. It is best to do this in a neutral environment, such as the shelter. If you have children we do urge you to bring them along to make sure the pet will do well with them. Pet allergies are common, please let the staff know if you suffer from pet allergies and we will direct you to the breeds which may have less effect on people with allergies.
