Snow Baby...

Elijah was brought to the shelter as a stray on a wintry day in January. Upon examination, it was found that this beautiful grey tiger was missing a portion of his front foot - birth defect, injury, frost-bite are all possible causes. He must have had such a hard time living out on his own. When he came into the adoption room, he hid in the corners for weeks on end. He cringed when we picked him up to take his photograph for the website and isolated himself from other cats as well. But as it often does here at Lakeland Animal Shelter, a miracle happened. Elijah was snuggling in a round basket, and a child who was visiting gently offered him a toy on a string. Laying down on his back, Elijah learned to use paw to bat at the toy. In the following weeks Elijah blossomed! He is more confident and plays all the time. He has cat friends he sleeps with and they get along great. He enjoys keeping company with people, older kids especially, and he loves pets and being brushed. Come meet Elijah and his friends in the purple adoption room at the LAS.
