The Dude is the perfect name for this sweet boy because he is so cool! He is a lovable boy and oh so sweet! The Dude was surrender to a shelter in Southern Illinois where Heartland found him. We just had to rescue this boy and help him find his forever happy life!

The Dude has a disorder called Laryngeal paralysis. This is a disorder in which the nerves that control the muscles and cartilage that open and close the larynx do not function properly, causing breathing difficulties. Heat, humidity and stress can all exacerbate the symptoms and the condition is dangerous because if they worsen, he won't be able to get enough air. There is a veterinarian in Chicago willing to do IV stem cell treatment on him. After the treatment is complete we are hopeful that The Dude will recover completely and have no more issues!

The Dude is a mellow, calm, and loving boy who will make a great forever family member! The Dude is currently in a foster home, so please email or call the shelter to make an appointment to meet him soon! You are sure to fall in love with him!.

About Heartland Animal Shelter

About Our Shelter...

Heartland Animal Shelter is a no-kill humane 501 c 3 organization dedicated to finding homeless pets forever homes while educating the public on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets in order to help with the pet overpopulation problem.

Dr. Herbert Preiser, DVM and founder of Heartland Animal Shelter wanted to make a difference by saving the lives of pets who might otherwise be euthanized because of the over-population of unwanted pets. Dr. Preiser opened Heartland Animal Shelter in October of 2002.

Heartland's vision is to eliminate euthanasia to any adoptable animal. Heartland asks for your support by spreading the word about the importance of why pets should be spayed or neutered in order to prevent overpopulation of cats and dogs. Together we can make a difference!
