Hi there! I'm Idris! I am a 5-year-old husky/malamute mix who weighs 70 lbs. I am looking for my forever home. But I will be upfront with you and say that I am looking for a special kind of home-one that accepts me for me and understands my needs. See, I need a home that will be patient with me and give me time to trust. I originally came to the shelter as a stray with an injured leg. (I recently had knee surgery, though, so my leg will feel so much better now.)
Although I haven't told people specifically what happened to me on the streets, they are guessing I didn't have an easy life. This has caused me to have some trust issues with humans. Specifically, I can be wary of strangers and need a slow introduction to new people. I also can be protective of my food. It also makes me uncomfortable when people I don't know reach for me. I'm not sure what their intentions are when they reach for me, and I think they may be trying to grab me, which scares me. I am currently receiving training at The Pet Connection and learning to not be so sensitive to these things. For example, I've learned that strangers can be ok if they are appropriate with me and don't try to reach for me or grab me. And I've learned to allow handling from the people I trust. But with any good relationship, things take time.
Because I've come so far, I need a home that will continue to work with me so that I can be successful and be the best dog I can be. I also want to tell you some awesome things about me, too. I'm told I'm handsome! Do you think so? And I'm told that I really am a sweet guy. I'm great on the leash and I am doing very well with my obedience training. I have let people I trust brush and pet me, and I am known to lean on a person when I trust the person and want attention. I also seem to really like other dogs, and can be a great play mate for them. Oh, and I know the commands, "sit," "stay," "come," "go," and "kennel up."
If you adopt me, you will receive training support from the trainers at The Pet Connection. They will show you how to handle my issues and how to continue my training while in my home. And they will continue to be available to provide training support. I'd really like to find my true forever home. I'm sure I can succeed in a forever home that is willing to follow instructions and work with me. I think I'm worth it! I sure hope you do, too. If you aren't the right home for me, could you please share me with others? I know my home has to be out there. Anyone who is interested in adopting me can either call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387.

About Dogs by Debin

About Our Rescue Group...

We were developed based on the fact that there is a gap in the system here locally. The shelters that are open-intake, although they are doing the best they can, they can only do so much. Those shelters are also very stressful to the dogs & this is where we step in. You can consider our place a half-way home for dogs if you will. We allow the dogs to be dogs again, offering them behavioral modification, land to run on, playgroups & necessary vet care. With this being said, our adoption rate is sometimes slowed due to the fact the dog(s) may not be ready for adoption right away. We set our dogs up for success & match them with the right family. Our final goal is to have the adoptions last the dog's lifetime.

Our #1 goal though is to have a dog stay in their current home, should it be safe. We offer counseling & resources to do our best to make this happen. When it's not possible, they may safely surrender the dog to us, provided we have space.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Come in and meet our dogs anytime during normal business hours. Our hours of operation can be found on our website at

Our Adoption Process...

We have a Adoption Application located on our website at under the Applications tab. Each potential adopter is required to fill out.

After the Adoption Application is reviewed, and requirements are verified, Dogs by Debin will contact adopter, and if eligible, appointment will be made to come in and meet our dogs.

We try and list our adoption fees when posting our dogs. All of our adoption fees include: Age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, tested for heart worm (if positive, we treat them), and a free training session with our local trainer. If the adoption is a puppy, the training session will be at 4mths or older.
